Not recognizing RAM and DIMM switch position?

When I boot the system, there is an error message that says I must have 32 bit ram installed. I have not see it in a little while but now. I would like some help from the members about possible issues with the RAM? Could it be a bad BIOS setting? Thanks in advance! Gary
