FADERS NOT MOVING

Postby sweck » Mon Apr 13, 2020 9:00 pm

Hello, I've run into a problem I was wondering if anyone could help me. Ive been using my d8b for about 10 years. Over the last couple of months, my faders have stopped remembering their positions on the mixer when switching between banks? the problem is only on the mixer, the GUI is correct and functions as normal controlling faders via a mouse. (but no response on mixer faders related to position change)

When booted, all faders stay at zero. On the GUI screen, they are at the correct positions but not on the mixer.

When I try to move any fader, it locks at zero. I then force the fader up to 10, then back down to 0 and this frees up the fader and allows it to work again, but if I switch bank, then go back to the bank I forced the fader upon. all faders positions are back down to zero but the position is still correct on GUI? any ideas what this might be? thanks!

Hey Sweck;

The IC's that controls the motors on each of the fader boards, have stopped working most likely. This is common.

There are 2 different boards. 2- 8 fader boards and 1- 9 fader board. You will need to remove the bottom and takes all 3 boards out. I strongly suggest that you have a repair shop do this as faders need to be removed off the boards and re-installed.

The IC chips are AD8803 for the 8 fader (you need 2) and AD8804 for the 9 fader board (just 1),

My suggestions is to buy spares. These are available on e-bay. not sure what your wait time will be.

Your Electronics shop should be able to get them for you. Again I would have them order spare for you as this has happened twice to me.

The schematics are in the DATA Base here in Forum under the Maintenance tab. Scroll down you'll find them. The ones you are looking for are call, "d8b Parts", "8 way Fader..." and " 9 Way Fader.....".

Last time I had it done it cost me $79.00 to do all 3 boards. I supplied the chips.

Best of luck.

Thank you very much for this Bruce, I think this is the route I am going to take.

One thing I wanted to add to this (in case it changes what the problem might be) At the same time the faders stopped moving, 90% of every time I boot into 5.1. I get the authorization code screen, I have to enter my licence key each time. I thought it might have been the cmos battery, I replaced it, but it has not helped?

Hey Sweck;

I don't think the 2 problems are related. Not positive, but I don't think they are.

As for the authorization code issue, without having more info, as you have changed the battery it sounds like it is the wrong code.

Are you using the Crack or Hack code that is very popular? Do you know about it? It has given everyone who uses it a full 5.1 version and all plug-ins.

Usually when you put the authorization code in you need to reboot. When it is the wrong one the desk continues to run in demo mode and you loose many of the features. Does any of that sound like what the desk is doing after the code is entered?

Cheers

It’s a legit code and when I enter it, it tells me authorisation is successful and to reboot. But when I turn the desk off for the day and turn it on the next day it asks me again lol. This is a new problem that happened around the same time as the fader issue lol

Hey Sweck;

I am really puzzled by this.

Perhaps, a software reload?There may be something corrupt!?!?!

Are you using Floppies or USB?

If you reload, Back it all up!

Post back. I'm curious!

Cheers
