That would have been Sally... If they came with a protective film at some point, then they came that way from the supplier. Mackie didn't put 'em on. It is highly possible that there was a change during the course of the run, not unusual at all.

It was on mine, bought 10 years old... :)
Yes, acrylic glass has this protective layer on from manufacturing (generally speaking, for all such components), usually. Since it is cut together, the fit is so perfect that it is hard to notice the foil is on, until scratched or other bad things happening, like liquid. I'd be curious too, whether it solved the OP's problem, but I guess we'll never know, will we?

Thinking back all those years ago, Digital Village delivered and installed it so they probably removed the film!
