Help, new "analog-y" guy feeling overwhelmed and stupid...

Postby garbonzobeanwillie » Sun Dec 05, 2010 4:06 am

Hey I have owned a d8b for a few months and have been recording using an Alesis HD-24, have had great fun learning the automation, etc. All in all I feel I have done fairly well going from a standard analog board to a digital one, and I love the d8b.

But something that is driving me insane is how can I patch outboard rack effects into a tape (25-48) channel on the d8b? When I try Pre-DSP or Post DSP, nothing seems to send the signal correctly. Surely this board will let a guy use an external effect on channels besides 1-12?

Similarly, how can I insert an external rack effect into the final L/R Mix before it goes out to the mains/two-track recorder?

I have tried reading the manuel, and even a couple friends have tried helping me out but we are all baffled by this. I apologize right away if this is a stupid question. I will readily admit to being stupid when it comes to this board, and would be glad to tell my friends that they, too, are stupid.

Thanks in advance for you help!!

Only channels 1 - 12 have inserts where you can directly access the external world. However, go here to find out how to deal with what you ask.

In the scheme of things, there isn't one... just chaos.
