While having a chance to play with all these poisonous snakes (and probably also spiders! Lets' not forget BIG spiders!) is REALLY tempting, I don't have a work permit there, so that might make things a bit difficult (I am permitted to work in the EU, USA and could easily get a work permit in Japan (married to a citizen). So, gotta stay realistic ;)

I hadn't heard of the drop bears - scary stuff! I did watch a 3-part Children's documentary called "Hunting the Bunyip" (German: Die Jagd nach dem Bunyip), back in the 1980s, and I LOVED it! I really wanted to Bunyip hunting myself, because of that, hahaha.

I think we have distantly related animal in the German woods, too, that we call "Wolpertinger." There's danger lurching EVERYWHERE ;)

Funk,

I think you might have made a serious typo when you stated "than the UK" because I am sure that you ment to type "than Australia" because you have basically described this country at the moment ---- a ruling government that are doing virtually nothing and an opposition party that are now basically morons (especially the leader !!!) --- and I used to be a member of that party for much of my voting life ---- note the past tense !!!!!!!!!

I might be wrong but as far as I know, OZ doesn't let illegal immigrants in, they only let people in if they have money in the bank and have a trade etc, UK welcomes all...thousands a week, mostly men, they get 5 star hotels, money to live on and free health service, our old age help to pay for this with heating cuts and low pension etc etc, should have listened to Enoch Powel years ago, Nigel Ferage seems to be the only one with any sense these days, I'll vote for his party if they ever get to that stage!

Phil,

Can't comment on that. I know we had a problem a few years ago with boat people. but I think that basically stopped when our border patrol started to turn them back or something and in our case it is not like just crossing the English Channel, it is a trip across hundreds of miles of dangerous water.

AND if not it is our Government taking ages to make a decision. You might have heard about Rahaf Mohammad the 19yr old Saudi girl who in January 2019, escaped Saudi Arabia and was able to fly to Indonesia, with the intention of travelling on to Australia and requesting asylum. Without going into th full story our Immigration Dept head said that we would take her but not before they undertook a full investigation and decision making process (was going to take weeks). The Indonesion finally said that they were going to return her to Saudi Arabia (and most likely death) if she was not accepted withinh a few hours. Canada stepped in and within a couple of hours she was on a plane to Canada.

This is typical of the reason that we do not have a major imigration problem --- not saying that I necessarily agree with it !!!!!

David

PS: going to be bringing the faulty TT24 desk home from the Centre tomorrow to set it and the donated d8b desk up after Christmas, to see if I can hopefully get both to work --- the TT24 will be the most difficult as there appears to be no service manual as there is for the d8b and I can't find any forum that appears to be able to give any help.
