version 5.1 Authorisation issue

Discussion board for Mackie's d8b Digital Console users.

I spoke to a Mackie tech about buying a brain board with the matching authorization code from someone reputable. Install it, download 5.1 and pop in the code, he said this would work. Has anyone done this yet???

Guys I do not want to worry if Mackie will help us or not until after we ask them. Let's try to get as many names as possible and write this letter. Remember if 10 people actually get tagged to this letter with a reasonable request and then get turned down. Don't you think these 10 will tell their friends and so on. How that can multiply not in Mackie's favor. Or if they did help us, how the 10 would tell their friends and so on. How that would benefit Mackie. They have other things to sell! They want a good reputation. We have nothing to loose, only gain. So we should let this take its course in a positive fashion and keep focused. Thanks!

I'm confused

I see d8b brain boards on eBay with 5.1 and all
Unlock codes for efx

Can't I just swap the brain board and have 5.1?

That's Eric Russ... and I purchased 'unlock codes' from Eric a coupla months back (No Bueno), and here I am in the same fucking boat as the rest of y'all. The plugin authorization codes I received work like a Champ, but they're as useless as 'Tits on a Nun' if the OS doesn't authorize and unlock... I also have some other issues with him ($$$) and the fact he's evidently been avoiding my emails for the last 4-6 weeks - he does travel some, but c'mon...

I advise you to TREAD LIGHTLY there...

Of course, you knew it was coming, so here it is:

I think you can just swab the brain board and authorise the OS5.1.

Hey Dok, are the UFX codes non usable under V3?

Hi All, I have been thinking that maybe we're going about this the hard way. I remember on another thread that they were able to monitor and log communication between the cpu and the D8B. I suggest that at some point that there is an obvious function that returns true/false. These could possibly be broken by modifying the binary to always return true from the IsLicenseValid() function. This is a common thing in shareware and small company homebrew protection schemes. Regardless of security of your signature, if there is an obvious place where the program decides Yes/No it might be broken.
Now I'm no programmer and I may be speaking out of total ignorance, so I won't be offended if someone out there educates me. Just trying to consider all the options.

Have a Blessed Day,

I got codes ONLY from Eric, the plugin codes work like a CHAMP - No Bueno on the Unlock code, curiously the same code produced via the Mackie process... long story, shortened version... he does, however, get his codes from an 'insider' at Mackie (per his own statement in an email)... that's ALL I'm going to say about it...

If he'd actually get back to me, I was really interested in seeing if he actually had a Brain Board that works with the codes he would provide... so far, to no avail...

So, I've got an 'official' purchase from the Mothership (Mackie), and purchased codes from Eric Russ. ONE of these is going to hit Pay Dirt... I'm being as patient as I can about it at this point...

I believe that this can be done. When i changed the Hard drive of my old d8b, the OS5.1 authorization window popped up...just typed in the code and all was well. So i believe that the HD is not an issue here as a recognizable component for authorization. The problem is if the system is trying to recognize the pentium when authorization takes place however I'm a bit skeptic about this. What about users changing the CPU rack, will they face this problem?
If i recall well, on the d8b database or somewhere else i read that there is an option to change the Pentium processor of the Old mobo to a faster one. No one indicated that if you change the CPU you will face a problem for authorization. My new d8b (v3.0) is in a better condition than my current one (V5.1) and i'm trying to find some time to swap their brainboards so that i will have an authorized OS5.1 on my new d8b which is in a better condition.

http://www.mackie.com/support/FAQ/d8b_detailed.html#cpu

The effects and OS codes are permanently assigned to the consoles ESN (electronic serial number). The effects cards can be installed in a different console of course.

Note: If you connect your console to a different D8B CPU - the effects codes will follow the console. If you connect your consoles CPU to a different console, your effects and v5.0 OS will no longer be available as they are affiliated with the previous console, not the D8B software running on the CPU.

So when swapping the brainbaords you are also swapping OS5.1 i.e authorized brainboards with OS5.1 can be installed on the console and you will have the OS5.1 up and running.....

Correct me if i'm wrong
