from page 8 of the manual....
• Mixer Power On.
• Monitors connected and on.
• Microphone or Instrument plugged into Channel One.
• Phantom Power button pushed in if required.
• Fader Bank 1 (MIC/LINE selected).
• Press the MIC button down when using a microphone; leave it up for an instrument.
• While sound source is active, adjust TRIM for a reading around –15 on the channel 1 meter.
• Select L–R in the ASSIGNMENT section, then verify that the ASSIGN button on Channel One lights up green.
• In the CONTROL ROOM section, select MASTER L–R.
• Select the desired SPEAKERS in the CONTROL ROOM section.
• Set the SPEAKER LEVEL V-pot to about 11:00.
• Turn the MASTER L/R fader up to unity.
• Slowly raise the level of the Channel One fader until you hear sound.
• The Master L/R meters should display levels.
• Rejoice in the sense of accomplishment while listening to crystal-clear audio.

Tried last night and this morning and no success. Meters no longer working now. Followed all steps over and over

OK. Let's get down to basics. Plug a stereo line source into the 2 Track A input jacks. Select 2 Track A in the monitor section. Do you now hear something from the monitors?

OK. That's good. With the desk powered down, pull the clock card from the sync slot and let it sit for a minute or two. Take an eraser/rubber and clean the gold pins/edge connector on both sides. If you have some isopropyl alcohol, wipe the pins so they are spotlessly clean. Re-insert and reboot. Check to make sure there is no flashing */? in the fluoro display when booting is complete.

I have to go out but if others are watching, they can take you further.

No flashing that I'm aware of. Just showing me which cards I had installed. I removed the clock card and cleaned it. Placed it back in, powered up, still works from the "2 Track In A" section but not from the line inputs. Is there anything I need to do in the OS? The guy I got the PSU from did say there was an "Error 43" but it was the wrong BIOS settings and I fixed that. Also noted something about the software he couldn't figure out and he gave up on it.

Sounds like an OS reinstall is needed.

The floppy says "d8b v.3.0 bug fix". For my situation, which route to go? I'm on Mac btw

That won't do it. That's just a 16 bit/24 bit anomaly fix. You need the full install floppies. 3 or maybe 2, can't recall, it's so long since I used OS 3.

Look, do me a favor and go to the desktop on the d8b. Search for and flush down the toilet, anything that remotely resembles "Startup Session". There may be several in different folders. Nuke 'em all and reboot. Then get back to us.

See I'm unfamiliar with the desktop too. ONLY time I used the VGA was to test it out and I saw the console/faders etc. I'll play with it and see what I can find

There's only a few icons to deal with. It's standard computer fare!

Follow THIS to the letter. This will get your d8b back to factory status.
