HDR Install Disks and Reboot error

Hello all -

Long time since I've been here but I've been using a d8b and MDR for many years and I just acquired an HDR. It's in pretty good shape save for one issue.....it's stuck in a "reboot loop"....that is, after it boots into the editing screen it reboots on its own.....continually. It has ver 1.4_420 and I've checked the Bios settings which are correct. I thought I would reload the OS so I downloaded the disk images from the Mackie site. When I got to the 2nd disk I got the "not enough space on the floppy.....you need 29k more error". I checked the Mackie image and sure enough the size is 1.457k. Of course the floppy is only 1.44k (I did format the floppies before using) and even tried other floppies.
Can anyone explain this and have a fix for it. I'm a veteran user and understand DOS etc. if you recognize the reboot error that solution would be much appreciated as well. Thanks for your help guys.

Hard disk issue... most likely can't find the mbr and bootable partition... so loops back to POC testing (Power On Confidence)...

Dunno about the diskettes issue... my own personal experience is that I've not had any problems creating the disks, just finding the damn things available *grins*. There's some information here on the forum about converting to a USB-based floppy emulator that's had good results; after reading it, I'm considering doing this for both my D8B and HDR... just because... it's a MUCH better way of doing this for a myriad of reasons... :ugeek:

Thanks Dick. I guessed maybe the hd too.....I'm waiting for some parts to convert from hard drive to compact flash. If it works on the d8b i'll go for the HDR upgrade as well. Thanks for your response

No "if" about it, it'll work. A 4GB CF for the D8B and a 128GB CF for the HDR if it's got the latest BIOS for recognizing larger disks, or a 32GB CF if it's the older, original BIOS... just make sure they're CF II cards... :ugeek:

Post back how it works out for ya...

Peace

Still waiting for the parts (coming by boat)....but while I'm waiting I tried a couple of 40gb HDs strapped for 32gb and I got one to work, so thanks again you were right about the HD. I will report back on the CF conversions. I plan to use a 4GB in the d8b and a 4GB for the HDR system. Looking on the forum for converting the HDR external drive to CF....sure I saw it. Will probably just use 16 or 32gb CF for external drive......I'm not a big fan of putting everything on one huge drive (the HDR is still the old bios, though I did upgrade the MDR bios years ago and still just swap drives for different projects). Thanks for your help
