Hi all,
Hopefully someone maybe able to help with a problem that has been driving me crazy for the 3 weeks.
New to the Mackie recording world i bough a D8B and HDR as a pair recently.
All is going well with the audio, however i cannot get the transport section or the rec arming working via the d8b
i have research and found that the desk has the old mother board and checked and adjusted the bios settings to eliminate that
pinned out the mackie break out cables and checked them
i am asuming the word clock card is ok as there is no audio tracking issues (pops and cracks i have read about) and when i adjust the clock to external on the D8B i get the flashing star and question mark indicating a problem
All has been set back to what i can make out to standard settings and still nothing
i have the midi leads bi directional in the right order - can any one offer any info and help please?
Hopefull and Greatful,
Ben

Hi Ben and welcome;
The BIOS settings for the HDR are critical to ensure that the MIDI is communicating between the d8b and the HDR.
I will PM you with the settings on my HDR as soon as I can.
Cheers
Bruce

You can find the BIOS for the HDR on page 22 of the service manual.

Hi,
Maybe you have a bad BNC clock cable coming from the HDR to the D8B. Just a thought.
Have a blessed day in Christ,
Mike

Hi mike,
Thanks for the reply as well. Not 100% on how to check this but when I look on D8b it show clock set to internal appogie and next to the selection box it says locked.
When I change to external the desk freaks out.
I re boot and then get the *? Flashing in the vdu.
When I go back to change the D8b to internal clock it says clock error.
Change the D8b back to internal appogie clock, re boot and loose the *? And clock locked re appears.
This makes me think no issues with the clock side, only the midi info not transmitting, but again not sure on how to check if it's being sent from the d8b or recieved by the HDR to narrow down the problem
Thanks again
Ben

The only thing I can think at this time is that the old mother board in the D8b need irq 10 to be set to pci and the newer HDR required irq 10 to be legacy?
In bios settings. I have tried both ways on both machines and always re booted the system d8b first. Still nothing
Running short on ideas now...
Any other things to try would be greatfully recieved!
I've heard about turning HUI off but I can't find that anywhere?
Thanks again all

been there mike, could not work out what it was, ended up being a naf T piece BNC connector the pin in the middle was thin not making contact, cheap ebay junk.
as mike says ben check the lead,
have you got a meter ?
reseat the clock card,
while you are doing the bios anyway, for what they cost renew both of the boards cmos batteries, then at least you know the settings will hold.

Hi,
Pardon my asking, but you do have a bnc cable routed from the HDR to the apogee card on the D8B?
