D8B to HDR MIDI Control - 9pin to 9pin?

Hi Guys,

I just picked up a D8B and I have an HDR. I want to connect them together for MMC control. I know that I can get the MIDI breakouts and connect them with standard MIDI cables, but this seems kind of kludgy. Has anyone ever made a direct 9-pin to 9-pin cable that allows this without the need for the breakouts? I don't use MIDI for anything else in my studio at the moment, so this is the only MIDI connection I would need between the two units. Thanks all!!

Hi Rick;

Welcome to this great place!

I to have wondered this! It would be something that needed to be built but should not be that difficult as it just needs to be "crossed over".

When the dust settle on my life, I will give it a try and see what I find.

Again, welcome

Cheers
Bruce

Check here:
It shows how to make the cable you want, when going straight from serial port to serial port.

Slightly off-topic, but somewhat related, in case anyone has one of these laying around:

I used to have an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 PCI card, and that one uses a breakout-cable for MIDI and S/PDIF that connects to a 9-pin sub-D connector. I no longer have the card, but just stumbled over the break-out cable.

I figured I'd try it with my d8b, and it worked! :)

Looks like they use the same pin-out for the MIDI connections (of course the S/PDIF connectors on the breakout cable won't do anything when connected to the d8b). Maybe that's even a standard?

Anyway, maybe this info helps someone, with a similar old-gear graveyard like mine ;)
