Potentiometer grease?

Postby JoeJoe » Tue Aug 25, 2020 3:17 pm

Hi!

One of my trim-pots was crackling so I put some drops of contact cleaner down the shaft and turned it back and forth a couple of times. The crackling is gone which is nice, but the smooth feeling (resistance to turning) is gone.

So my question is:
What kind of goop makes the pots have that smooth resistance, and is it something we can add to them to restore the "feel"?

Hi Joe,

I've always used Deoxit contact cleaner on my faders and pots. As you say they do go a bit 'loose' after applying contact cleaner, but I've always found that the smooth feeling returns after a while. So, if it's quiet, I'd give it a few days and see if the normal smooth feeling returns.

Regards

John
