well today I just upgraded my ram to 300mb. everything seems to be working good. also i just got a Celeron II 900Mhz 100Mhz bus processor that I will be installing later this week. anyone have any advice on upgrading cpu on the d8b?

256 MB is all that is needed in terms of RAM with OS 5.1 and I'd be wary of replacing the processor. There is an article in the database about it but I believe 550 MHz was the user's recommendation. Whatever, you seem to enjoy the hot-rodding. It won't make any difference to performance and grief could befall.

I was hoping it would fix the "one moment please" message from always coming up. i currently have the 166Mhz processor so it might improve that? maybe?

When does that message come up. During a save or disk op?

I have a 300 MHz and I've been told that there is only a minor diff between that and the 166 which seemed to be only the time taken for screen redraws and even that was marginal.

I have one of each at my disposal and the redraw was what I remember as well. Other than that, I didn't see one d8b performing any "better" than the other.

When the console just sits there the message will randomly come up. I dont even touch anything. but now it seems to have disappeared since i upgraded from 64mb of RAM to 320mb

I have never heard of a console doing that. I only see it during the boot up process. I believe 256 meg of RAM is all the console will recognize as Peter pointed out but it won't hurt it to have more. Sixty Four meg is all that you had? I can't remember what these shipped with but that seems low to me.

Tyler, my guess is that you have 2 x 128 sticks or 1 x 256 stick plus 1 x 64 stick. I'd be inclined to remove the 64 stick. It's not helping you out. The 64 is what was originally supplied. It's redundant.

I also re-iterate, think carefully about changing the processor.
