How Quiet The Forum Has Become

Postby csp » Tue Dec 03, 2024 12:13 pm

It is amazing just how quiet the Forum has become, as it is one month today (3rd Nov) since the last post was made and that was by me when I was asking if Peter was OK after the extreme floods in his part of the world.

An update on me and my Mackie problems.

1. I will be digging out the donated d8b again after all of the Christmas festivites are over and family have returned to their various parts of the world and the spare bedroom is vacant again to set the desk up --- I am going to hot glue one plug that I think is causing all of the problems.

2. I will then set up the TT24 desk that I purchased about a year ago and which went strange a few months ago --- turning on booting then turning off then rebooting again in a repeating sequence, BUT I may have discovered the fault as I found a lead coming from the power supply board that has a joiner and the joiner has seperated --- now boots perfectly, but now the faders are hard to move and as soon as released immediately move to the bottom of travel, also on the main board (forgot what it is called) there are a number of large ICs and below each is a rapidly flashing green LED --- have no idea if this is normal and there doesn't appear to be any real service manual as with the d8b and there is almost zero assistance from anyone on the TT24 forum to advise/help.

Alll quite frustrating !!!!!!!

I still pop by everyday and give everything a look over. Now that I have moved on with the dxb from the d8b, my experience with the the d8b is slowly fading and there are plenty of folks that are still on top of their d8b game to offer help when it's needed. So, I'm still here just lurking in the shadows more or less these days.

You are right though, things are slow as I have seen them in a while. Hopefully that means everyone has their rig sussed and running smoothly.

Happy holidays to all.

Crash,

Like you I also have a look virtually every day --- hoping for a miracle re both of the Mackie desks that are currently not working, although with a bit of luck I might get the donated d8b to work when I set it up after Christmas (I think the power socket on the DSP board could be loose and breaking contact when the desk is the right way up !!!!!), the TT24 is another matter, because there appears to be no service manual and the forum topic is basically dead and even in the desk's prime there were only a few subscribers.

Phil, Good to see you are still floating around.

I'm still here and nothing will change for me if I don't end up moving overseas (...not the first time I made such a move - just the other direction. But there's some open questions I couldn't get cleared up, yet, regarding my employment. Nothing will happen until I have the answers I need).

I'm still using the D8B almost every day, but wouldn't try to ship all of that stuff, IF I were to move overseas. That would be crazy.

I mean, if someone throws a lot of money at me to buy all my Mackie stuff all at once and locally, I'd take it, even if I don't move... but nobody messaged me about that, so far. And if I'm staying put and keep using the D8B, then I also want to hold on to my "set of spares."

So if none of those "IF" cases happen (no move and no package sale), nothing will change and I'll keep being on here as usual...and so far, everything points in that direction.

But my main D8B has been working reliably for me, lately, so I didn't have a reason to post.
Maybe if I get bored, I'll make sure to have a 2nd unit fully working and change the package deal to a Dual D8B setup... but it wouldn't be for myself, so I'm not planning to work on anything like that any time, soon. I've been busy enough, lately.

In short: I'm still around, too, unless my situation changes. I'd probably still check in every now and then, even IF I were to sell all that Mackie gear :)

I check in most weeks to look for topic updates and tips for ongoing issues that we all seem to have from time to time, also to see what you guys are up too, from the d8b to HDR to what's new on the hacking side.
Its just nice to know I'm not alone in my tech misery :D

Y-my-R,

If considering a move overseas, can I suggest the Australian Gold Coast --- 6th biggest city in Australia, clean air, great views if living in the hinterland (see my profile pic), amazing beaches, great eating places AND if you bring lots of spare d8b parts there is an amazing console that you could work on and I have heard that at least one international airline is considering flying direct from either LA or San Fran to the Gold Coast every 2nd day !!!!!! What more could you possibly want --- and as the add states "Beautifull one day -- perfect the next" that is unless we get a flood or bush fire AND just think we not only have kangaroos and koalas in our back yards, we have the majority of the most dangerous snakes in the world that you can play with, anjd then there are the cane toads --- great for golf practice I was told by my son and his friends many years ago !!!!!

What more could anyone possibly want !!!!!

Phil,

Before you decide to move, I forgot to mention the most scary part of moving to Australia and that is its super vicious "Drop Bears", but as it is far too scary to place in a post, you will need to do a good Google search for "What is an Australian Drop Bear".

Also you have it wrong it is not "that famous desk" BUT rather "that INFAMOUS desk".
