MIDI Mapping

Okay so I was experimenting with MIDI Mapping. I am using the Master layer for this so only using faders at this point. What I am trying to do is create a layer where I can control volume quickly on my DAW (Logic 9.1.3).

So I have set up the MIDI Map to Send/Receive and have got control of a fader in Logic. The problem I have is that I cannot control the fader from Logic. In my HUI layer this seems to work fine.

Now the reason this is a problem is that I intended to use my HUI layer for fine adjustments and the Master layer to make quick volume changes (I have set Logic to receive on only Software Instruments for these Maps).

However because the MIDI Mapped layer seems to be only sending data it does not refresh if I switch to HUI and make a change. What I mean is if I switch back to the Master layer that is mapped the fader positions do not update.

So is there something else I have to do or is this a failing of MIDI Mapping?

Is the d8b set to "both" under the direction menu in the midi mapping window?

Yes it is, so should it work?

It works for me but I'm using Cubase. You might try PMing tyler cause even without him messing with the OS he still had some stuff working with logic. I'm not a logic user so I don't think I'll be of any help as far as that goes.

What stumps me is that if it was a MIDI issue HUI would not work right but it works fine so I know Logic can work with it. I have studied the HUI settings in Logic and cannot see any differences.

Maybe you are using MIDI channel 1. This should be avoided. Any of channels 2-16 is the go on both devices. Channel 1 is reserved for HUI.

Hey I am dealing with the same problem you are .... I had it working for a while but after a storm when my power shut off it only sent midi to logic. I was going to try a new midi card but they are almost impossible to get

I think the card is a Midiman, they are discontinued but maybe a PC retailer might have some old stock... somewhere?

I do not think my MIDI card is the problem as my HUI layer works both ways. I got the Mutes to work with one click in the end, I found that when learning the control in Logic each press of the button produced a different midi code. The second one seemed to work better and I used "rotate" instead of "toggle".

I am going to try using a fresh project with no template to see if its something in the template.

You could check for filtering in either your MIDI interface or Logic.
