hope you all hade a happy easter.
this may sound silley
if Im useing the rode k2 mic it comes with its on 48 power supply and I use the 737
is it better to go into the 737 mic input or the line input. I know one would say do what ever sounds best.
but I tride it in the line input but I had to turn the output and the input on the 737 all the way up to get
a fair level. I tride it coming out of the rode power supply into the mic input on the 737 and can get
a real good level to tape. but is this the right way. I have alway's though that if you come out a mic pre you should go into the line input. or am I thinking wrong. is anything wrong with say going into a mic input and then take
the output and go into another mic input. thanks for any help

The K2 is a valve(tube) microphone. The box that it plugs into is a dedicated power supply sending power to the tube. The output of the power supply is not a line level it is a mic level so you will still need to go into a mic preamp. The reason you have to turn up the input and output all the way on the line input is because it's not amplifying the signal enough, or at all for that matter.
After the preamp it will be line level and will need to go into line level inputs from then on. At least where this 737 is concerned.

thanks joe allen

I cant find a pic of the connectors of the Power supply for the K2. But I'm 98% certain that the power supply for the K2 is a mic level output only, there is no line level out. But if you could snap a pic and show me what you mean it might help clear things up even more. But I'm standing by my answer that the K2 power supply does not have a line out, only a mic level out.

No, the Røde K2 power unit has no line-leveled output. It's like all other tube mic's, where the output should be rated as a regular mic output. Like straight out of any other mic's...
If you connect it to a external mic pre before you go into your d8b, then it would be best to go into the line in input of your d8b. If not, straight into your mic pre.

casey you are right
there is no line output
my fault. if its mic output is it okay to go into the mic input on the 737
then go to line input on d8b
thanks joe allen

That is right Joe, the K2 mic with special mic cable to the K2 power supply. Then a regular mic cable out of the K2 power supply to the 737 mic input (I don't think it matters if you need phantom power or not but check the K2 manual). See below or you might have it. I looked and it made no reference to phantom power so it will not make a difference. Phantom power not needed.
The output of the 737 is now like any other output from that mic pre with any other mic input, direct instrument input, or line input, so whatever your chain is you can copy it. If you normally plug the 737 straight to the line input on the d8b then this is fine.
Here is the Rode Site where the manuals and stuff is... there is a certain order Rode would like you to hook the mic up. But basically have everything put together before switching on the Rode K2 power supply. And turn the power supply off before disconnecting the mic cables - common sense applies here.

No problem.
As for phantom, you shouldn't need it. The K2 power supply provides all power needed for the microphone to work.
