I would just like to know your input on if this is a good trade? The console is extremely clean and has been in a studio it's whole life and been professionally recapped and cleaned.

I personally think the PM1800 is a gigantic piece o' poo.... I can't imagine that the 1800 is a decent studio board as it was designed for live use. Every one of them I spent time on sounded really harsh and cold.

What does the PM1800 offer you that you feels is lacking in the d8b?

A mint d8b vs. a mint PM1800.
Live -> PM 1800
Recording ->d8b

the yamaha offers 40 channels, fully analog, Impression on clients, old school way of mixing (more fun)

You won't be happy with the pre's on the Yamaha for recording. The PM1800 is a LIVE mixer....it's designed for live applications, and it's EQ, Preamp section, and overall tonal coloring reflect that. You will not get as clean of a signal source from that as you will the D8B. Yes it's analog, but the Mixer itself colors the sound in a way that is not tailored to neutral recording.

Which would you rather make? An impression with your board, or an impression with the quality of your sound? Personally, I'd take a 16 channel Allen & Heath Mix Wizard board over a PM1800 any day for live OR recording! ....I mean come on....unless you're tracking Orchestras, when will you EVER need 40 input channels of simultaneous recording? Your client will be wow'd by the board, and let down when he hears it. I agree with crash, compared to a D8B, or ANY decent digital mixer, the PM1800 is poo.

What is the "old school way of mixing" I have to ask? I can respect the 40 channels of analog but if you are looking for a killer sounding client impressing console, look for an old D&R. They are so under the radar, fairly cheap and kill anything "PM" from Yamaha in my opinion.
