Trouble with tracks..

Hello all...I would appreciate any help... I'm using my MDR with my D8B: when I arm the tracks that I want to record on I have audio coming back through the board even with the faders down.. Is this normal and if it is, is there a way to be able to control the channel volumes by using just the faders..

Thanks.....

I am not following this. What you describe is not normal but I am not sure there is enough information there to truthfully understand what the issue may be. I can't tell if this operator error or an issue with the rig itself.

Sorry about that. I put the D8b In bank 1 which is for tracking. I set up to record a live band and push record ready buttons on each track I want to record on , the lights blink on each track for record ready. with the channel faders down Im still getting the sound source from each of the tracks. if I turn the record ready buttons off I no longer have sound this would be OK if I could record. I guess what I'm trying say is when I record I want to control the volume with the channel faders only. But instead the signal of each armed track is coming back through the tape returns of the recorder and into the D8b Thanks for any help....

Are you using direct outs? Is the input track still assigned to the stereo bus? If it is, un-assign it, otherwise the input and it's return are both going to then stereo bus with some odd phasing due to latency between the signals. Unless "fader to tape" is selected in the GUI, you will get what ever the preamp is sending out to the record deck even with the input fader all the way down. You should be able to adjust the volume on the tape return side.... if I am following you correctly.

Crash,

I would definitely think that he has "faders to tape" switch off. This got me when I first purchased the desk.
