Hi all, when I got my d8b it had ver 3 software and was rock solid in it's performance. After a while I decided to take the plunge and update to ver 5.1. After the update I noticed odd things happening with my board such as stuck faders and no sound requiring a reboot. I have only 48 mb of memory running in the d8b so maybe this causes a problem?
Should I have formatted the hard drive before installing the new os? I have reinstalled ver 3 on the d8b and all is well again..what should I do? I don't want to have wasted £100, maybe someone can tell me how to install on sdd drive or other tips to get ver 5.1 running smooth?
Thanks.

My bet is you don't have enough RAM. You can't just stick any RAM in this thing either. It needs to be PC100 compatible and the max the d8b will read is 256Meg as I recall. Look around on the database for more info on this upgrade.

Yep the Mackie site recommends 32MB for v5.1 but that is, I think, pretty outdated. You need to install SP3 if you haven't already and with RAM being on the cheap, just get two sticks of backwards compatible 128MB PC100 non-ECC (PC133 is okay too). This way you are at the maximum the d8b will recognize to be sure. It is hard to believe that v5.1 wouldn't run on 48MB though. Save your files and a re-format, although this is not necessary it is not a bad idea either, I did a re-format when I installed v5.1 for what its worth. I like v5.1 way much better than v3 and it is a great improvement imo.
Hope this helps,
Michael

After upgrading to v5.1, besides the advice given above, it's also good practice to double check the bios settings. And you might check to see if your battery is dying/dead.
