hey guys, so i managed to get the d8b i was telling yous about & im sooooo glad ive got one of these now, i can instantly hear shit hot sound quality compared to my previous shitty 16 channel desk.

i got a really basic question, until i config the digital side im going to use it in analogue for the time being as ive a shit load of work to get through

question A is, which is the best input(s) on the d8b to receive my soundcard 1/4'' Master L & R connection?

Is it the 2 Track A? EDIT: Tried 2 track a, can see the levels but nothing coming out the main speakers ;/

or do i just use 2 of the mono channel inputs? < if so do i pan the pots L & R? or just leave them centre?


Question B is, which area of the d8b is the sends so can send audio back into my soundcard?

Read the shit in the manual smart arse, actually been on it all day, its shit when get you being smart instead of giving you an answer would you ever fucking think that there could actually be something wrong with the mixer and that theres a user that isnt sure so comes into a forum to ask, fuck me..... . why would you even waste the time to write RTFM protocol. Ive already did that, trying to re-enforce a believe by talking to a human.

id really appreciate if someone could waste all 5 seconds of their time and answer this for me. wheres the best place to stick a stereo input into the d8b^ thanks in advance. i mean you answered another question for me peter not any more complicated that this one, but sure tx anyway.

I think the answer to my question is, to put it into 2 mono channels and link them by holding down select?

It is shitty when you say shit... sorry just my opinion. Also the other language is just well %$)(Tty.

There are a lot of inputs on the d8b and depending on what you want to do with the source sound will determine where the better input would be. Track one and two panned hard left and right is usually the most obvious, monitor out however you have it set up and there is quite a lot of ways to do this too. As far as sends go, same thing. Basically through the digital routing and the four layer concept there are just too many answers that are correct.

The channel link is pretty cool too, but gives you less flexibility but easier control... it really depends on what you want to do. This is why it really isn't an easy answer. Read the manual was a good answer.

As a matter of mentioning and since you have been reading the manual there are a lot of outputs on this thing too. It is a wonderful mixer with many ways to have a super amount of flexibility to do anything you want and need to do. However, I get you, it can be overwhelming at first. The best thing to do is break it down in to simple concepts, the manual attempts to do this. And just so you know, there is a huge amount of knowledge here on this forum, especially about the d8b; usually the potty mouth stuff has a tendency of being ignored and looked down upon. You can talk or write whatever and however you like, but you might not get the same amount of help and/or respect speaking in such a tone. And for me... it's all about tone!

Really appreciate the advice after hours (and still reading at present) the manual doesn't easily give the answer because as you say there are so many options.

Basically for now all i need to do is run outputs (just the main L&R from my soundcard for now) into the d8b. Use the onboard effects and record back into my DAW via the soundcard.

So i understand now from your answer just to fire the stereo pair into channels 1&2 and pan left and right on the channels.

But my next question is, how do i get channels 1&2 to apply the exact same eq / fx in the d8b then send them back into the soundcard? cheers

My point was that there's no need to use profanities to ask a question or to use them as a constant barrage of adjectives.

No worries, thanks for the point hope you can understand my fraustration at the answer considering id only fired up the d8b within a few hrs of the post.

The easiest way is to link them and send them out the master L/R outs (engage Master L/R in the control room section while in bank 2). I do not remember if the EQ and effects copy to the stereo channel, but if they don't just copy and paste the desired EQ/EFX to the second channel. I'm sorry I don't remember what exactly the channel link function does beyond linking levels. Might I suggest page 113 (page 118 of the v5.1 PDF) for running aux and sends through the effects. Be careful... I blew up a pair of perfectly good woofers not watching my levels whilst in the effects bank one time... all I had to do was pull the master fader down, but for whatever reason I panicked and it got away from me and next thing that happened was I had the room filling up with smoke coming out of the woofer voice coils. When I ordered the replacements it was a definite improvement, but still could have done without that.

There are a lot of little sub-menus and settings but honestly it is pretty intuitive... the thing to remember is get the concepts down of working digital instead of analogue. This mixer is a routing masterpiece or nightmare depending on the level of knowledge and there is a learning curve like with any piece of new gear. Just remember where your master fader is and low volume when setting things up is a rule I follow.

cheers many thanks, managed to get everything sorted and up and running for now. The only other question i have is. How do i use sidechain compression on my master inputs (which are channels 1&2 linked on the d8) fed from a kick input signal i have going into channel 3?
