Mastering on the d8b

Is there any plugins that should be noted and is there any aural exciter type plugs or similar?

Final Mix is pretty cool for getting a rough idea of a mastered version of something. The Massenberg parametric is really quite the stuff too. Nothing really exciterish though. If you go to my Rafters thread on here, all of those mixes are getting the DIY mastering with FM and the GML plugs, plus some more stuff going on inside an Alesis Masterlink.

I do not, but this EQ is a world class EQ... FWIW, the on board EQ (fat channel) is no slouch either, but the Massenberg is one of the best things about this mixer. Hence when Marc and Frank invent the controller part I am hoping that they will find a way to toggle in and out of the original v5.1 mixing console because it is still a great mixer.

The easiest way to check this information is to look at the specs and description. But really the d8b Massenburg is very well designed and in the same class as you might find in any modern high end EQ plug-in - really not joking here.

As a comparison I have a late nineties EQ system that is, by today’s standards, very okay (but was AWESOME at the time) and it gets me in the ball park, but when I demo the Massenberg next to it, it is game over – The Massenberg is just too deep and too wide, transparent and clear. Although the late nineties EQ was originally sold as a state of the art three band parametric EQ with Q on all three crossing frequencies, it falters next to the d8b Massenberg EQ. Now not to say that the other EQ is bad, it is not. The Massenberg is killer better. My purchase of the Massenberg EQ is without a doubt one of the best moves I have made, this is when I was really new to the board and Mackie support, I must say, was really great about it.

Didn't see this before sorry.. the Aphex exciter stuff (outboard) is easily had if you want that, I got one or two in the rack. I am sure there is software emulations too. IMO, it is an odd animal - usable on some things but should not be compared to EQ. I did a Ry Cooder type thing a couple years ago and the thing that got me closer was the Aphex box... go figure. At that point I was glad I had it.

For the record, I love both Marvin and Wayne and have a ton of their stuff in my rack, they are basically "down the street" from me and have stopped by on several occasions to say hey... super company with a fine product. I have met with Marvin and he is super attentive to the users needs; as well Wayne is just super smart and gets to the point very quickly. I love Aphex products and hope they thrive in this ever changing world of audio.

I must comment that I completely dislike the effect of Aphex exciter BS. Sounds interesting when your ears are tired and you're in the middle of a mix but the next day reveals its medicine show antics.

I agree with this statement Peter, hence my comment... "IMO, it is an odd animal - usable on some things but should not be compared to EQ."
