First Fader Stucked at Infinity (0) even after change.

Hello all,

I had the famous stucked fader syndrome on my D8B Board. Fader #1 stucked at infinity position (the lowest position) of the fader and can't be moved from there. Tonight I replaced the defective fader from my board and I thought I corrected the problem, but no, it came back...

Is there anything else we have to do to get rid of that bug? I've got another D8B I'd like to buy from a local guy, he's got the very same problem as me! Is this a usual problem? Or is this just coincidence?

Thanks in advance,

Marc

There's an IC on the fader board that you can replace. There's a thread around here somewhere.

I think coincidence... this is most likely a software issue, be sure to un-check load last session at power up, fresh OS installation would be a good idea even with a re-format of the drive, believe it or not... even (bad) RAM can cause all sorts of havoc.

Corrupt session file is a real possibility. This is why it is a good idea, just like with any other PC to make quick periodic back-ups.

You know so much more tech stuff - in fact I am sure you have forgotten more than I will ever know, but these are a good places to start when it comes to a replaced fader (known good correct?) that is exhibiting the same behavior after being replaced...

Of course this is with the Mackie OS... if this is happening with your AWESOME project, then... cue the crickets please - and I don't mean Peggy Sue! Or you could put on the S & G record sound of silence. It then becomes a quite abnormal hardware thing. You could try (and I am sure it has been suggested) to swap the banks and see if the problem goes to #9 or stays on #1 fader. It is unlikely, IMO, that you got two bad fader banks with the same problem.

Hope this helps,
Michael

Hey Michael,

Thanks for all the info, I'll see what can be done on my board... I might need a replacement fader pack, as all of this is happening in my own OS, not in Mackie's OS, which I haven't loaded in months! :)

But there might be hope... I just woke up with a crazy idea: I'll tamper with my fader calibration file and see what's happening. To me, it looks like a faulty IC that can't read the fader position anymore, so the motors go bezerk and the fader gets stuck down there.

Thanks,
Marc

Hey Marc, years ago when I was running Version 3, I used to get a sticky fader 6, it would stick at the top. For whatever reason, when I upgraded to version 5.1 the issue went away. It may be worth just doing a clean slate re-install of the OS...it may or may not fix it but couldn't hurt to try.
