trouble reading floppy

Postby bkbannon3 » Sat Oct 22, 2011 6:05 am

I recently decided to upgrade to os 5.1 and bought and downloaded onto floppy. Before it completed loading, it said I needed 32mb of ram to run the program. I bought 256 mb ram and installed. Now, when i turn it on with disk in floppy, it is not reading the disk to load 5.1. I checked cmos and bios settings and all seem to be correct. Is it possible my floppy drive went bad or am I missing a setting somewhere. I tried to load a floppy saved with a song on it and it said unlock floppy drive???? As always, any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks Brian

I am not familiar with the unlock floppy message. There is a lock tab on floppy discs but this does not sound like your issue. As for the 5.1 issue, make sure you have it extracted. You should have three floppies as I recall...maybe two.

Yes I have 3 disks. When I boot up, it looks like it is not reading the floppy first. Green light does flash as it is booting. I just installed the new ram, so I might have knocked a wire or cable loose while doing so. I checked the bios and it is set to read it first, but nothing is happening. Brian

I also loaded 5.1 a couple of days ago and it loaded, just couldn't run, because of shortage of ram.

Hello all, took the cover off again, and it looks like the floppy ribbon wasn't seated very well. Cleaned it and put it back together. Fired it up, read the new disk with os 5.1 and she loaded and ran as it should. All is wonderful in paradise once again. Thanks guys. Brian
