That's outstanding. Martini a la Mackie. Too good.

Have a drink on the good old Mackie days.
Would you mind looking for more boxes in your garage ?

Found this on an old disk. By June of 2000, we were planning this....

Frank,

it just breaks my heart seeing all important points in life in going - no, I don´t say wrong - just going NOT the way I would like them to go. All this potential of brill ideas is washed down the gutter.

It´s the same with where I work, german broadcast. Once among the avantgarde in development of fine audio gear, there are only few fellows left being able of thinking in practical intelligence. No more recording of rock and jazz live events will lead to a deterioration of skills faster than they were growing.

Thank you so much for giving the d8b fan crowd another -virtual- object of desire.

Excuse me, i have to write an addition:

This is overwhelming. I just opened the pic in an external program, to watch detail and I must say: wow!
(thank you, synthjoe !)
Looks a lot like what LAWO, supporter of german broadcast stations, did in their consoles at the same time. But for a multiple of mackie price base.

Around November of 1999, a 32 channel version was entertained that made more commercial sense than the huge 48 channel thing. It was an interesting concept. Those extra 8 faders on the right made a ton of sense for flexible fast mixing with groups or busses without having to bank or crosspatch into the 24 channel bank.

24 mic pre's, real AD>DA pre-master fader inserts, Busses assignable to 2-mix, Line/Instrument switching on the last 8 channels, 6 MFX/UFX slots including an MFX card designed to handle 4 channels of analog I/O, a built-in keyboard and trackball under a hinged cover....and get this: VST plug-in support was being considered. Again: this was in 1999.

If only. Everything about these two concepts would have would have put Mackie ahead of the game by 10 years. Damn shame.
