Different sounding versions, guts or ?

Okay, so previously I was using a version 5 board.
I thought it sounded okay, though my friend noted my EQ settings were "peculiar"

Then that board broke down and he has taken it away for service.
In the meantime he's loaned me a Version 3 board.

This board sounds AMAZING !

I turn the EQ a little and it is affective and makes a big difference.
The tracks sound very, very good.

All these years ... what exactly was I doing?

Anyway .. just wondering if anyone else has noticed differences between boards, versions or internal hardware ?

I believe the EQ was changed for v5 but there is the option to run it in v3 "mode", or something along those lines.

Read up in the version 5 manual, it should say something about this.

Also the database has a massive amount of info for trouble shooting. The link is just to the left of the logout button at the top of the page.

There was a discussion on the other forum many years ago about what had changed in v5, as far as I remember, there was little changed in the way of sound, compression etc was the same. I think there was an issue with your v5, maybe a new OS reset.

Page 1 of the preface section gives you all the differences between V3 and V5.1. There was no internal hardware differences that I recall.
