Ok I have a m-audio profire lightbridge 34in/36out connected to the d8b via optical, I currently have a stock clock card "yeah I'll get an apogee soon" but for now is there a way to sync the two devices thru midi or spif using the d8b word clock as the master???

Can I sync other devices to the D8B via ADAT (ODI - light pipe) or AES EBU without the Sync card?
Yes. ADAT/ODI and AES/EBU carry clock info with the digital signal. The D8B must be in Internal mode. You can even chain devices using ADAT ODI or AES EBU

I took this from the Mackie website. Does that answer it? The unknown is the lightbridge.

For those who may be having the above issue...I solved it by using the Lightbride as a slave on ADAT optical 1 and connecting the midi cables in/out accordingly thru the breakout cable to the d8b CPU. (Make sure your sample rate is matched correctly on the d8b and Lightbridge). Then configure HUI to be on in your d8b GUI page and set your DAW software to receive the HUI mode. These setting will vary depending on your DAW platform. In my case i have successfully set Pro Tolls and Logic to work smoothly.

Specifically to your question as written: what the two guys above said....with exception to this part:

Ignore this unless you need to work in HUI mode.

A little more info on what kind of DAW and platform you use could help with some targeted user inspired details.

Yes... Thanks for the clarity...
Sorry guys...
I added the bit about the HUI should the syncing of transport functions with your DAW be needed in addition to midi. That section should be ignored if HUI is not intended in your syncing scenario.

Could a "bad" clock card stop the HDR from Recording?

All sampl rtes have been triple checked.

A bad clock card would not let the d8b boot up properly if at all.

A d8b should be able to boot up, even of there were no card in the slot but it won't pass audio.

Let me re-phrase (or is it re-phase), as my question wasn't correct.

I am using an Apogee Word Clock Card in my D8B which is acting as the Master for my Mackie HDR. The HDR will not record even though all Sample Rates appear to be set correctly on both the D8B & HDR.

The D8B is doinf what it should do. Big "Record Light" turns solid when engauged, and the little record LED on the channel also turns solid.

The HDR Channel Record LED flashes on the correct track but doesn't go into reocrd, and, the transport controls on the HDR do not light up either. Doesn't matter if the D8B is connected or not. (more info, better answers, I hope).

There is another "Weird" issue which is a "ticking" noise along with the audio on many of the tracks BUT not all.

I have only recently purchased the HDR so the audio I am listen to came with the machine. It is not anything I have recorded as ..... I can't record.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Sounds like you don't have your clocking sorted out. Have you checked the setup page of the hdr?
