No digital input...

Hi everyone, I'm completely new to this forum and to the D8B. Just bought a used one (V3) with the old MB 166 Mhz etc. I'm already finding my way around this beauty but 1 thing I can't get working.

Connected the Dig out of my Alesis HD-24 recorder straight to the Dig in (1-8) on the D8B. Switching to layer 2 (Tape in) and expected to see some signal in the meters on ch 25-32 and to hear something. Unfortunately nothing happens. Tested the dig-out of the recorder already on my Focusrite Liquid 56 and it's ok.

Please can you give me some advise to get this working ? Can I only work with the Tape-in layer for monitoring a signal that's coming into my HD-24 ?

Many thanks already for a reply....

Greetz Hans

How are you clocked between these two devices?

No clocking. So when it comes to digital connections I always need a cable for sync too ?

I would suggest looking at Chaper 4, page 108 of the V3 manual. You need to have some sort of sync between the two digital devices for this to work for you.

Let me give you some more info on my setup.

D8B has 3 DIO-cards installed (the ones with tdif + optical) and these are configured like this:
Tape 1-8, 9-16 and 17-24 in/outs all set to ADAT , UV22 is OFF, Status Bits is PRO, Digital in is AES-EBU
Sample-rate is set to 44.1 Apogee Clock is internal (locked). (It's still on V3)

HD recorder set to 44.1, clock is internal too but I'm not using it at the moment as I only want to test if there is a signal coming into the Tape in layer.

Have you got everything set to 24bit? Since the HD24 has BNC clock in, I recommend you hook this up to the Apogee on the D8B and set the HD24 as clock slave. It makes no sense having both devices set to internal clock if you're trying to connect them digitally.

Hi there, it's all working fine now. With new adat cables and clock set to Optical on the Alesis HD24 it's al going...
Probably id didn't work because I had only 1 (optical out) connected to the HD24,once I connected the optical in too it all started to work OK. Now all 3 ins/outs are connected so I'm ready for 24 track recordings.

Yes I know, still have a lot to learn but I'm getting there. Big thanks to everyone for your advise and reply... great forum.
