Adats not working

Postby Fern » Fri Jan 25, 2013 4:18 am

Hi All,

I'm New to this site, Can someone here help me in getting adats to work in d8b? I'm using RADAR24 as my main Recorder which also has adats 1-24 I/O. I know it has worked by myself once before over a year ago and thats without using wordclock only midi form RADAR24 for automations. The d8b has an orginal Apogee workclock in it. The Mackie d8b has a clean install V5. Everything other then the Adats is all good to go. Mic/Line in works ok on d8b and I did a test with them both, All meters works fine but d8b is not outputting to adats and on to RADAR24. I did a test with RADAR24 by doing a loop test with sound within RADAR24 by coming out of the first 1-8 D/O and in to 9-16 D/I and 9-16 which records well. The Adats on the d8b is the orginal OPT dot 8 Cards. The RADAR24 will only records in either Digital or Analog and output to both Digital & Analog. I also did a test with playback from RADAR24 and I get Analog coming out from my SSL AWS948 but nothing on Mackie d8b.

Welcome Fern....

What is the master clock in this setup?

How are you assigning you signal to go from the d8b to optical out to the RADAR?

Hi Crash and thanks, There is no master clock setup, only midi time code from RADAR for automations to d8b.

I use the GUI. say I got a Mic or Line on ch 1 in d8b to go to RADAR trk 1 or 24, in GUI I assign the (Drop down box, just below the Bus 1 to 8 L/R) and assign out 1 or 24.

I'm able to record onto RADAR from d8b at this stage, but I'm not reciveing any reading back on d8b.

So it seems you are getting your clock signal from the signal embedded in the optical feeds. I have never found that to be very stable. I would try to get a bnc between the Apogee clock card and the RADAR and see if that helps you out. That is where I would start anyway...

I may be wrong, but I believe the older RADAR24 didn't come with WC I/O connectors nor provisions for an optional WC card.

Which would explain why Fern is using optical I/O and MTC for sync.

I am not familiar with RADAR, so that makes sense.

To the op, are you positive RADAR is putting out signal?

Just as a matter of saying, doesn't the W/C via adat only work on card slot 1 on the d8b? I've forgotten.

Thank you all for submitting your input, GOOD NEWS.
I gave the d8b unit a wack and now everything seems to be working like it should.

When in doubt....get a bigger hammer.

This sounds like, you might have some ribbon cable connection issues. If you see this behavior again, you may have to go under the hood and reseat. Glad you got it sorted.
