SATA Drive Caddies

Has anyone had any luck converting the Drive caddies to SATA? Do you think there would be an issue with just sticking an adapter in the caddie if it will fit with a drive in there?

Hi Casey,
I never tried an SSD as an external drive, but I do have the components here to try it with. I have a lot of studio work to do this week, but maybe next weekend I can have an answer for you. By the way, how do you like the hammerfall card and do you think it would work with Melodyne Studio?

Thanks for the reply Mike. When ever you get time is cool with me. The hammerfall is great have had it for two years and no problems at all, bought it used too. I would think as long as Melodyne accepts ASIO it should be fine.

Works with no issues here... my HDR runs SSD's internal & external... 30+ hours recording time...

Here's a pic of my M90 External - SSD onboard; apologies for the size of the pic, y'all...

I'm looking for the BOM of the buildout, the parts (or similar) are generally available from NewEgg. Essentially a SSD SATA II drive, IDE-to-SATA interface, data and power cables. It also is mounted on a tray for mounting 2.5" drives into an IDE (3.5") caddy. It's easy enuff to do, just gotta get the correct parts...

Stay tuned, I'll find that parts list and post it...

Can yoiu find the time to post your bios settings, for the drives.. is it on "auto--- sector size", etc....?
My ssd mod kind of works, but won't pass the drive test for recording, so it can be an archive only.

Hey Ferris...

Nothing special going on w/ the BIOS at all, as both drives are set at 'AUTO : AUTO'. They key to all this is the SATA to IDE interface adapter; it MUST have the jumper to program the drive to be 'Master' on the secondary IDE chain or No Bueno... it won't be recognized by the BIOS scan on boot. It needs to be something like this Koutech model; this is the one I use exclusively for any SSD interfacing I've done. I highly recommend this product from a personal usage standpoint...

Oh, no SATA III (6.0Gbs) support, so you need drives that are SATA II or back...
