WELL.... I cleared the BIOS with the jumper, installed new battery and turned it on holding the delete key, it went thru memory check then loaded drives then system error 43 comes up. Now I am further away from the keyboard/mouse issue.

Dont hold the delete key down all the way through. Instead, repeatedly press (and release) it.
Could you post a pic of your keyboard?
Also, you did out the jumper back to its original position, right?

Yes I put the jumper back to the right pins, I tried pressing and releasing the delete key repeatedly on start up, I ordered a new keyboard, but it won't be here till the end of next waeek. Hard to find those PS2 type. Also may need to do a CF card reader to load OS if I have to. I have the floppy's and a spare set I made 15 yrs ago... ! That's funny. I also have the files on my computer to load them so I can change the ini. file to keep the hard drive from formatting. I reseated everything and still does the same thing. Keyboard and mouse do nothing. So I just half to wait on the keyboard I guess to get here. I hope that will get me into the BIOS and back up again.

Well, if you tried the keyboard on another pc, and it worked there, I don't think the problem is the keyboard.

Thanks for all your advice arjepsen!!!! I am not sure either what is actually wrong. I did use the mouse and keyboard on another computer with a USB/PS2 adapter. So just going to start from scratch with all new parts. They are cheap parts to replace then I can check them off the list. What are your thoughts on a floppy emulator instead of the floppy drive in the HDR then I can use a USB drive to load the emulator with the ini. files. just not sure if the floppy drive is still working or the floppys are any good anymore... IF... I can get the keyboard working. I really hope I can save my HDR, I am just so used to it and have it down as far as working with it.

Well, lets hope we can get things running.
The first step is still getting a keyboard working.
If you can get the keyboard to work on a different pc, then it would indicate the keyboard works fine.
If you are using any adapters, those could be at fault to, but I would try a different keboard first,

I am thinking about the usb-keyboard solution... I´m on holiday, so cant check this out at the moment, but if you have a usb-connector that you could attach to the port on the motherboard, I would try a usb-keyboard. I think that should still work to get you into the bios, even if it doesnt work inside the OS yet. But I cant check this out untill Im home.

Is it the original bios, or did you get the updated bios chip?

OK.... To all who tried to help
Thank you very much!

I fixed it and the problem was the PS2 to keyboard port adapter. I bought a new one and installed it - turned the HDR on, held the delete key and it went right into the BIOS setup page. I loaded the settings and it booted right up and is in perfect working order.

WHO would have thought that was it.... Ugh the digital world.
