HDR 24/96 Mouse/Keyboard stopped working

Postby Tyton » Sun Jul 14, 2019 7:43 pm

I just recently moved my studio and after getting it all hooked up, turned on the HDR and everything works except the keyboard and mouse. ??? I can load projects and play front the front panel but no mouse/keyboard. I have restarted, un-plugged, checked them on another system. But still no go... The HDR is updated Eprom , 1.4 firmware and large drives, Maximum RAM. This HDR has been working flawlessly since I bought it new back in the day.

ANY HELP will be a God send as I have large drives in it and lots of projects on the recorder.

Hey Tyto;

Change the battery and check BIOS.

The Parallel Port needs to be off. I think this controls the Mouse/Keyoard functions).

Cheers

Hi All,
Hey Bruce, is there a way for him to get into the bios if the keyboard still doesn't fire up after he changes the battery?
Just asking, cause I don't know.

Have a blessed day,
Mike W.

Usually the keyboard should work at boot, particularly after a bios reset - even if it doesn't work in the OS.

Hey Mike;
Good question, for which I don't have an answer but arjepsen had the answer. Thanks!

I forgot to ask Tyton, the keyboard is the old style 5 pin DIN connector, and the mouse is a PS2 connector?

I ask as there is a way to connect USB to the HDR but it is not in the BIOS as a default. Thought I should ask as it need to be the old standards to access the BIOS.

Thanks
Bruce

The ports are old style DIN & PS2 I am changing the battery this weekend and will post the results, I believe that I have the boot floppy still in case. Everything boots up at startup and shows the keyboard enabled on last page before the Mackie logo. I have not changed any of the BIOS for over 3 yrs when I upgraded to new Eprom, RAM and larger drives. I have all the print outs of procedures and have done this many times since I bought it. I am hoping its just the Battery...!

I'd suggest to fully resetting the bios, using the jumper on the motherboard (do you know how?)
I've had experience with funky board before, that really needed to be fully reset before they started working correctly.

There is a jumper lose to the battery. It's connecting 2 out of 3 pins. With the battery removed and no power connected, move the jumper to the two other pins (pin 2 and 3 instead of pin 1 and 2. Leave it for a couple of minutes, then put it back to its original position. Replace battery, connect power and reboot.
