Static crackling inputs when armed to record

I have moved and edited this from the D8B forum as it was in the wrong place.

Sorry if this has been covered before, i did look,.. honest i did
i have a d8b and a hdr, connected by light pipe
oiginal Mackie clock card in the Hdr BNC output with the 75 ohm pressed in, to the BNC input apogee clock card on the D8B,
The HDR is master.

I have had the problem a few years now, but never bothered with it as was using mainly only 1 or two tracks at a time
first noticed when arming all tracks years ago, all the meter bridge on tape/mon desk light up and the bars on the hdr
and monitor.

1) when i arm a single track ready to record all is fine
2) when i arm say 1,2,3,4 all is ok
3) when i arm 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 i get all sorts of pops crackling static noise
4) when i remove 7 then all is fine ( but arming just 7 is fine)
5) if i arm 1,2,3,4 and 7 static is back
6) 1,3,6,8 static is back
any ideas help would be great
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some more testing today....
7) i can arm all 9 through to 24 tracks, no static.
8) i can arm all 2,4,6,8, and 9 through to 24 tracks, no static
9) seems the bad tracks are 1 3 5 7, together = static

Next step process of elimination,
10) moved the light pipes around still same
11) swapped cards around in the hdr still same
12) moved light pipes on the hdr from 1/8 to 17/24 the static now moves to channels 17/24 and still in order, ie
17/19/21/23
so the problem seems to be inside the HDR
so i took hdr appart and...
13) took the clock card out cleaned it
14) then the light pipe card cage cleaned and the cct board connected to it
15) and all related cables
there was some dust on the rear (see pic) but all else looks ok.
reassembled and hay presto.................. still the same.
Ideas ??? i could just multitrack on everything except 1/8 then use 1/8 as work or single tracks, but
just want it right or it will eat away at me.
not sure if any help here is a pic of my clock card and back of cage

Hey Funk;

Sorry to hear about your HDR problems. I don't have an answer but can lead you to the guy who may be able to help you. Mike Rivers (a member of the forum) is the HDR Guru. He worked on the HDR for Mackie.

He can be found at http://mysite.verizon.net/mikerivers/index.html.

He is a great guy and hopefuly can help.

Happy new year and keep the force.

Bruce

Did you do any card swapping on the d8b side? From what I have read so far, you could have the issue on that side.
