Using a PC (or?) Power supply to run the d8b

So I want to free myself completely from the CPU box and umbilical, as most probox users would.

I do not wish to harm the CPU in any way....including the bigass cable and connector

what can be done to accomplish this?

I have looked over Ralphs documents and they just dont make enough sense to me. Thats not a dig on Ralph, more on my lack of skills and a little on the language barrier

I imagine using a standard PC Power supply if its possible. I also have a large 12 Volt fanless power supply that I can use as well.

Can anyone give advice and maybe wiring diagrams to do this?

d8b Service Manual (Full easy to print out version) on page 85 out of 117 there you have the pins out
with the voltage required for each ....

this is a start point maybe others can help you out more ....

Ralph mentioned something about a 12 volt power supply...Im wondering if that is the only voltage requirement for probox use?

his docs show 2 ways, one with multi volt and one with 12 only...but again, they confuse me

to bring some light into the dark:

Power Supplies in The CPU/PSU box od the d8b are

- the Computer PSU (12V,5V, maybe 3,3V I don't know - however it doesnt matter) for Mainboard HDD Floppy (FAN)
- 5V PSU for 5V Domain of the d8B console (FANLESS)
- +/-16V power supply for d8b console and Audio (FANLESS)
- 48V power supply for d8b console Phantom power (FANLESS)
- 12V for d8b console is taken from the 12V supply part of the Computer PSU !!!!! (here we have the FAN again)

So when you want to kick out the Computer part of the CPU/PSU you have to Keep the Computer PSU because otherwise you loose the 12V for the d8b console.

When you kick out the Computer PSU you have to build in a 12V supply instead (you can take a fanless) then ist quiet

Im sorry Ralph...I like to think Im a pretty smart guy...I think something is getting mistranslated
I just cant figure it out from those docs

I still want to do this, but has anyone in the USA done it and with parts available here from the retailers we have to pick from

I do not want to change or use ANYTHING in my CPU...actually I want to sell it so someone else so they can get their d8b running
Mine works perfect and I want to get it back in use again and get a few bucks in my pocket to boot

If anyone has a clear step by step it would be valuable info, not only for me, but for the community
Heck, Id even pay for the notes if they were good

Maybe i think about a psu kit For the d8b console..
But international shipping will be difficult with these parts

suppliers a repacement board For the power connector
Could be a solution. Then the psu for different voltages and everything
Connectable For easy assembly.

Is there an interest For that?
Estimated costs will be on the range of 250-350 dollars.
thats a guess, not calculated. Could be a little bit cheaper
Or slightly more.

Maybe i only offer the board with the suppliers For the rest.

for me that would not be good or worth the money, but Im sure someone without a CPU would love it, you could sell it with a Probox as a package....

I guess I have to figure out what pins need power and what voltage just for running the d8b as a DAW controller with
Probox

So far, the schems and pics dont help me....maybe if I was a engineer...it would help. But I have deciphered and rebuilt marshall tube amp circuits...so I have some knowledge, but what I have seen on the d8b is not clear yet

I guess I am looking for PIN 8 and PIN 10 need 12 volts....etc just as a example.
Id like a pic of that fat connector with all unneeded pins blacked out and the rest labeled for voltages required.
I dont intend to use phantom on mine, I am not currently running audio through it either...but may want to try that

I know Im asking for alot, and I dont expect anyone to give that info for free unless it was to help all.

I recently made my d8b "cpu-less" with the help of Ralph.
I am using 5, 12 and 24V so all is features are working nicely. (I also ise the d8b as a monitor controller complete with talkback).
I used 3 different powersupplies that are mounted inside the d8b. It turned out great.
Feel free to contact me and I can help you with it. I also had some difficulties understanding the drawings and how to do it but now that I have done it I can probably explain things a bit easier.

24V ??? I hope you have not connected the 24V or you mean the +/-16V
