$2,500
(local pickup in Los Angeles, only. No shipping, no separation)

I’m looking into potentially moving overseas, so I’d like to gauge interest in a LOCAL sale of my D8B related stuff, here in Los Angeles.

For now, I’m only looking to sell this stuff as a package deal - I’ll only consider selling separate items if a package deal isn’t happening. (I'll update this space, when that happens - don't ask).

Here’s a rough list - if there’s SERIOUS interest, I can put together a more complete list.

1x 10’ long Argosy 90 Series desk that fits 2xD8B and 2x 8-Unit rack inserts OR a single D8B and 3x 8RU rack inserts (i.e. what’s shown in the various pictures in this thread):

https://d8bforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2209

1x fully functioning D8B with quieter fans, and externally accessible CF card, running Mackie OS 5.1 (all plug-ins authorized). That’s the unit that currently lives in that Argosy desk. I do have the side panels for it (and an untouched front plastic bezel to replace the one I cut)

2x ProBox USB

2x D8B Console units for parts (but they generally work… just not quite as reliable as the main unit)

3x D8B rack units for parts (2 of them complete and functioning, but one (newer board unit) has intermittent clock issues - the other has the older board. The 3rd has a fried keyboard controller chip, but powers on).

1x complete D8B console&rack PARTS only (no console or rack chassis, but everything that was in there). So, another spare mainboard for the rack unit and all the circuit boards and cables, etc from the console.

1x D8B rack unit running Windows 98, that had it's D8B power supply units removed (I still have them and they'll be included). Can be converted back into a working D8B rack unit for mixer use.

1x HDR with large BIOS chip and an external caddy. The OS is running on an SSD card and also allows recording to it.

1x MDR. Mostly stock.

…plus a large assortment of extra parts (too much to list), including the following sets of D8B cards

6x DIO8 rev 2.1
2x DIO8 rev 127 V2: 2
1x DIO8 rev M08_18C (needs a firmware upgrade to use with the other cards)
9x OPT8
6x AIO8
7x MFX
3x UFX
5x Apogee Clock (some with visibly poor solder points that need repair)
1x Mackie Clock card (stock)
2x 50’ prototype BFC cables (i.e. to allow placing the loud rack unit far enough away)
…and some extra regular length BFC cables.
2x Serial/Parallel switches to allow switching between Mixer and controller operation (via ProBox).
5x (hard to find) original Tascam/CableUp branded16’ TDIF cables (e.g. to allow alternative use of 24 I/O from a DAW via ADAT, or from an HDR/MDR via TDIF… that’s how I have it set up). Two of them still in unopened packaging.
…lots of other extra cables, such as multiple sets of ADAT optical cables, and DB25 cables to go between the D8B and its rack unit, etc.

Again, I’m NOT INTERESTED in selling individual items and having a lot of hassle shipping them, somewhere, at this point.
If I leave the country by early next year (not 100% decided), then I don’t have time for that, sorry. There’s much higher priority things to take care of until then to prepare the move, than to ramp up some sort of mail-order business just before I leave, haha ;)

So, if you’re LOCAL in Los Angeles, send me a PM if you’re serious. On the Mackie stuff, ideally, I’d like to get the money back out that I put in (which wasn’t much for each individual item... and I got some things for free, etc. -but it still adds up with so much stuff), but let’s discuss this, if you’re seriously interested.

Again, don't respond here - send me a PM! I’ll ignore requests for individual items or shipping items for now, and will post an update here when/if I change my mind.

Thanks for reading! :)

As for a price for the whole package:

$2,500
(local pickup in Los Angeles, only. The Argosy desk alone needs a truck with a 10 foot bed).

Below is a breakdown of how much I originally paid for all this stuff - those units were the basis of all the questions and answers I posted on this forum, while learning about the D8B/HDR and fixing the various issues I had (or trying to reproduce other user’s issues before responding on here).

So, I’m willing to pass on all of these “steals” as one big “clear house” package deal :)

I eventually settled on my current “Single D8B” console/rack-unit and I/O cards combination (included in the deal, of course) that has been running rock-solid for a few years now. I only had a single occasion of having to re-seat the BFC connector (big round thing in the back of the console) during that time - otherwise, boots/works/keeps-working every time.

It “should” be possible to put together a reliably working “Dual-D8B” system from what’s included here:
As for rack units, I know that at least one of the spares (that has the older mainboard) works reliably. I keep this unit ready as a backup and last used it for a test a few months ago.
As for the two spare consoles, one should “almost” completely work, but I think started to have sticky faders when I last used it years ago (there’s a full set of spare “ready to install” fader boards included). The other spare console was a bit finicky with word clock, I think and probably needs a ribbon cable reset in the hard to reach (aka further disassembly needed) areas. I never did that, and just used the “more reliable” console units, instead, since I had choices, haha.

So, while you “should” be able to piece together a fully working “Dual-D8B” system from what’s included here (if that’s your goal), what I’m “officially” offering here, is ONE fully working/reliable D8B console/rack system, plus a BOATLOAD of entire systems and parts in “various states of functionality” (but with a very high ratio of fully working parts that just need the time for assembly, maintenance (e.g. ribbon cables) and tests put in).

So, here's what I originally paid for this stuff, and how I come up with the $2500 price tag:

$200 for 2x D8B complete systems (first pair I bought - both had Error 43)
$175 for 1x D8B complete system (had Error 43)
$80 for 1x D8B rack unit (newer mainboard, needed battery/settings): $80
$0 (gifted) for 1x D8B rack unit, parts, cards and various cables (no console for easier shipping).
$0 (gifted) for 1x D8B complete system “in a cardboard box” (all parts stripped from console/rack chassis for cheaper shipping).

That’s where all 5 rack units I have come from (incl. the Win98 unit and the fried keyboard controller unit), and the 3 complete consoles.

$700 for the Argosy desk if I remember right (incl. a few parts I had to order from Argosy… but not counting the $75 or so for the U-Haul rental to transport this thing).

$250 is what I’d estimate for the HDR’s part of the price of a bigger “bundle purchase” I made that it came with.

$150 for the MDR via Reverb. It had Error 43, but just needed the usual… battery, settings and a little tic.

$440 for 2x ProBox units (they were about $220, each, at the time (might be different now) - not counting shipping).

$500 AT LEAST, for all the various clock and I/O cards, CF card kits, SSD caddy upgrade for the HDR, Console-to-rack cables, external switches, brand new TDIF cables, ADAT cables… oh, and I’d also include that old-school KVM and VGA/AT wiring to hook up your D8B, HDR or up to 4 such “vintage” computers at the same time.

So, as mentioned at the beginning, where that puts us for a number of approximately how much I have put into this and would like to get back out, it’s this:

$2,500

I probably put in quite a bit more (small stuff adds up)… but considering that I got a lot of that stuff for pretty cheap or even free, I think it’s a pretty good “bundle value” or starting point to put together a 112 input, 144 output (Dual-D8B) mixer setup… hard to achieve in that price range, even today.

Or if looking at it differently, it’s almost like a base inventory to start a D8B/HDR/MDR parts business on Reverb or eBay or something, hahaha.

So, if anybody LOCAL to Los Angeles (or able to pick all this stuff up without me having to ship or pack anything) would be interested in this ENTIRE PACKAGE at at least close to that price, send me a DM.

Again, at this point I am NOT interested in selling individual items or breaking this up into smaller portions - and if I would, it would NOT be at the prices above - that’s just to illustrate how I come up with that number.

If I change my mind regarding breaking up the whole thing, I’ll post an update, here. (No need to ask).

Again, thanks for reading! Send me a PM!
