External HD not recognized (SOLVED))

Postby Phil.c » Tue Nov 18, 2014 9:41 pm

Hi All,

Has anyone removed the complete external HD unit?

Can't get to it through the top?

Phil

EDIT:- I thought the trays were no longer available and I would have to change the complete unit, I have since bought two from Thomann, hopefully it's my old tray that's at fault?

what are the products that you ordered from thomann?

I haven't received my HDR yet - just bought it recently and my brother is playing around with it.
I imagine the unit is held in place with screws, the same way that cd/dvd-roms are held in.
(which is usually with some small screws in the side of the unit.
If the units are held in place the same way as in the CPU unit of the D8B, you might have to take out a couple of bolts to get to it.

I've ordered two external HD racks that fit into the HDR receiver.

You can't get to the HD extention complete unit from the top, there are screws underneath and on the side but these are not connected to the unit itself and the bottom panel is not removable?

It's not the same as a CPU, you can easily get to that from inside.

Two racks just arrived, I wasn't expecting them to be actually Mackie but as you can see, good stuff and cheap, not many of these around, ik, there's no fan, but that's not a problem for file transfering.

I'm pulling my hair out now!

The new drives are still not recognised, I have checked the CMOS, re-seated all the connectors, removed the mother board to get to the connector at the back of the external carrier below it, (Pictures to follow) re-seated that.

Everything works except on boot-up when it shows Secondary Drive "None".

As I said, everything re-seated, I did notice a slack power connector running to a small board at the back of the OPT cards, that was tightened, now the external HD is recognised. :?

Here's a picture of the external HD's rear connector, the MBO has to be removed to get to it, only a few screws but all the cards need removing, notice the earth wrist wire attached to the chassis.
