MFX on board Resistor value,

Postby funk » Fri Jun 05, 2015 8:26 pm

Hi all.
can anyone do me a big favour and measure the resistor on the MFX card
its the big blue 1/2w one ( only one on the board)
looking at it the colours are, black, yellow, violet, silver red.
should this be 47meg or less than 0 ohms ? ie 0.47.
if less than 0 whats the point ? ( unless for ref testing ?)
thanks.

I'll have a look.

On my board there are two resistors in parallel. bands are red, grey, black, black, brown. Measured with an ohm meter, collectively, they give a reading of 1.4 Ω

Thanks very much peter,
ya a star.
does red, grey, black, black, brown. = 280/2=140 ohms ?
if your 2nd black is true as a multiplyer this would mean then 280x0 =0 ?
anything x 0=0...
http://www.resistorguide.com/resistor-c ... alculator/

i have been given another card not known if working or not,
so tried it and..... yep its not working either, has the same issue as my old one
would make me think its the d8b if it was not for the fact the other cards are working.
and in the same slot.
so thought i would try this resistor as its one of the only things checkable on the card.
mine reads the same.as yours at 1.4, now this could be my cheap meters inability to read less than 0 ohms
hence when you put the two probes together they will read about this.
prob the resistence of cct in the meter through the fuse as well as the probes.
but bands black, yellow, violet, silver, red. ?? strange
i think the first one being black means that there is indeed a 0 there so would mean a point after it ( 0.)
so black, yellow, violet, silver red. = 0.47.

That's really funny. Yours is definitely a 0.47 Ω resistor, 2% tolerance. It must be just to avoid earth loops, being so low a value. I don't have a schematic of the MFX card. I measured mine with an ohm meter at 1.4 Ω but that was in circuit. Best to measure yours as well. BTW, I read the color bars backwards on my board so just reverse them in my previous post. There is a capacitor in play as well so that needs to be taken into account.

Cheers,
