I don't believe so. It would depend on your master slave setup. With a tape recorder, it would always have to be the master sending SMPTE (presumably on track 24 or 16 or whatever) to the HDR and the HDR sending MTC to the d8b in loop fashion, of course.

thanks again peter.
so as long as one of them had a s9 card in it would not matter ?
so for eg
1) D8B = Slave
2) HDR = Master ( so put the s9 card in this)
3) tape sends MTC/smtp to the HDR

would this render the d8b usless as detached from the d8b ?
or would it see the converted midi info from the hdr ( as the hdr being master) ?

Also to use the d8b transport to control the tape....
if i was to connect a tascam midiizer mts1000 between the d8b and tape, would i then need to set the d8b as master and put the s9 in the d8b
so ( with the s9 card having 2 midi in/outs) send 1 midi out to the midiizer mts 1000 ( the midiizer mts 1000 just needs the midi info to control the tapes transport)
and the the other midi out to the HDR ( hdr now being slave)
would make sense ??

If you have a Tascam MTS 1000 Midiizer, you don't need a serial 9 card in either the HDR or the d8b.

Wonderful device. I'm fortunate enough to own one. Does just about anything you need re Timecode and MIDI. Also has wonderful transport facilities.

Yes I am quite proficient at that. Bit of a PITA but it's worth it. If you do wanna run analogue side by side with HDR and d8b, there is no better device. Can't even imagine why they made it but I'm glad they did.

Are you 8, 16 or 24 track analogue?

40 track if i can link them :D Im using a Tascam msr24 and a tascam msr 16 at mo im running them both through an AH gl3500 40 chan desk... see att
but want a way to sync
1) them both up together for the analogue recording
2) and then if poss sync to the d8b
i did try using just the old single out midi card in the hdr but was not having it hence the idea of "T"ing on to the s9 card with its two in/outs

Gotta say, it's a big ask for an MSR24, MSR16 and HDR24 to be synced. I guess it's possible but you'd need extra Tascam serial/parallel boxes for it to play nicely.
