the old d8b forum will be ten years old in April

Postby Dan Worley » Mon Jan 24, 2011 10:06 am

If it lives that long.

I'm not able to post on Mackie's d8b forum anymore. Some nonsense about firewalls or something since they made the switch. Bunch of crap.

Anyway, I was finally able to get into my private messages over there, which have been broken for about two years now. Well, I found PMs from as far back as 2001 (unread. ha!), and that's when I realized that the Mackie d8b forum will be ten years old this year. I don't know exactly which month it started in, though I'm pretty sure it was in April of 2001.

They classify me as a Yoda (that explains the hair on my ears), but they changed my member number from 50 to 37. Ah, man, I liked 50.

Anyhorizon, should be a Yoda pretty soon. Probably after passing the 5k post mark, which he's coming up on over there. Get the ear hair clippers out.

I'm just yappin' away in public.

Ha! I was actually higher than that but such is the nature of the broom. I won't make Yoda because I can't see me throwing in another 300 posts over there. Much as D.Lee appears to be a nice guy, I believe an expert is needed to sort it out. Much wrong. No PM link, Ability to edit disappears after a day or two (and believe me, I need that facility :)) Dunno, it depresses me that so much knowledge and help is kaput. Maybe there is a once mooted hidden agenda. I'm layin' my hat here and you know what that means.

No kidding? Hey, that sucks. I wish they would have just left the place alone. It was working fine. They've shown me the door, unintentionally, I'm sure. At least I hope so. Well well well, oh well.

I was promoted to Jedi Master...what ever the hell that means. I will always be member 2142 but somehow I am now number 1759 or something along those lines. All I know is that as I get older, those silly image verification windows get harder and harder to read.

Well I'm a Jedi Master too! I just wish that I knew what a Jedi Master is. I only have 607 posts over there so I'm not even sure if I deserve such an honored and priviliged Mackie Casting hierarchy.

Thanks, Michael. Very nice compliment. That's one that I put together. I really can't say that I "made" it because I ordered the neck and body (plain, no finish) and did the routing, fitting, wiring and finishing. It is the Brent Mason model. I got the wiring and pickup configuration from the web. It's my fav guitar out of all the ones I own. The middle pup is not wired to the switch. The extra pot in the middle is the volume for it and you can dial in as much of it as you like whether you are in the bridge or neck position. Also, the tone pot is a push/pull and it switches the middle pup from single to double coil. And I also installed an EMU preamp in it like the Andy Summers (Police) tele. And yes I still own it.

I'm making another one that I'm veneering and it will have a binding around the body. It will also have the Parson's "B" bender, echo, distortion, tremelo and all sorts of stuff. I've been working on it off and on for about a year now. It will be more of my own doing than the one pictured. I used to build guitars, banjos and mandolins from scratch back in the late 70's and 80's. I did repairs for a couple of the major music stores here in town for many years as well. My health won't allow that now, but i can still do some things.

Again, thanks for the compliment.

You are very welcome,

Really nice Tele James... you keep moving brother! Lots of tone combos in that one huh?

I would love to see the tele custom (w/b-bender and effects (???)) when you getter done. How ya gonna fit echo, distortion, tremolo, and all sorts of stuff in there? Have you been talking to Harry over at Gibson???
