Need help with RAM

Postby AustinFa04 » Wed Jun 15, 2016 11:57 pm

So I recently purchased 128MB of Ram (2X64MB) for my D8B CPU with the recommended 168 pin EOD Non-ECC buffered for my D8B CPU. I previously had 16Mb, and was really looking to just get it to the 32MB I needed to finish my upgrade to OS 5.1 (currently running 3.0), this was the smallest I could find though. It is only single sided, and I heard it must be double sided, but this is hard to find, and not sure why it would matter. However, when I went to install this ram in the appropriate DIMM slots, it would not seat properly, the gaps that are supposed to line up with the notches for the RAM where off just a very tiny bit, Was I wrong on the type I was supposed to get?

Short answer, yeah... you've got the wrong type of RAM. Those notches are 'keys' to make sure they're aligned and slotted correctly. 128MB to 256MB DIMMS of PC100 SDRAM (100/133MHz FSB) are available, plentiful and inexpensive... you can score a 256MB DIMM on eBay for less than $10. Just make sure it's PC100/PC133 rated, minimum PC100, (bus speed) and you're Golden... :ugeek:

Of course, you knew it was coming so here it is :

Yeah, I have had allot of experience with changing ram in computers, and usually those slots are much more off then these are, they are extremely close but less then a millimeter off... I did pick up PC100 was the type I picked up, here is the link to the exact one I got. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-text-_-
