MIDI Mapping Revisited

Postby NigelC » Wed Feb 02, 2011 2:33 am

Okay still trying to find a way to make it work. Using Logic 9 and D8B 5.1.

Okay set up Map for a Mute button on D8B as Note and tried both "Normal" and "Toggle".
Learned MIDI in Logic in Controller Assignments, receives okay.

However no matter what settings I use in Logic it requires 2 clicks to toggle the Mute On or Off. Has anyone (except Tyler who tinkered with the Mackie OS allegedly) managed to Map the Mute in a DAW and get 1 click Mutes?

Mute works great in the HUI layer however I noticed this is received in Logic as Controller event and not Note event (but the D8B MIDI Map does not allow this method for a Mute button). So I am not sure how they programmed this but HUI must have something MIDI Mapping does not.

Have you set up Logic's mute function to toggle as well? Logic has the ability to generate and recognize Note on and Note off (or Note on value "0"). This needs to be investigated.

Yes I have tried all types of settings from Direct, Toggle, Rotate, Scaled (noticed Rotate is method used in HUI Map in Logic). None work. Also copied setup of Note Range used in HUI of 66 to 66.

I think it was Tyler who said he had sorted out the double click thing but another user, m33, mapped the mutes and made no mention of the double click scenario. Maybe send him a PM.

You know I have spent a couple of days on the MIDI Mapping and it just does not do it for me. Compared to the HUI layer its just not possible to get the level of control or feedback.

I have played a bit more with the HUI integration and found some anomilies in the implementation that I was able to fix in the "Controller Assignments" section in Logic. Eg: Bank Shift and Channel Shift buttons only worked when in "Arrange" view in Logic, however duplicating these commands in "Controller Assignments" in Logic and changing their action to Track View All sorted it.

I have also set up several screensets in Logic each filtering by Track type (Audio, MIDI, Aux, Instrument etc) so I can home in specific channel types in HUI (its implementation on the D8B is a little flaky as though Arrange view works better you cannot filter out by type via the D8B HUI layer even though Logics Mixer shows them filtered out).

It is a real shame you cannot utilise all 24 channels in HUI on the D8B however its still better (for me) to stick with HUI as there are just too many anomilies with the MIDI Mapping especially as I am using all the layers that offer full mapping and the 2 click Mute issue.
