Power supply

I have a question, and maybe a weird one..

Is it possible to build the power supply in the d8b?

No room and not a good idea as far as noise is concerned.

Peter,

There is a lot of free room inside the d8b.
I was really shocked when i started up the d8b for the first time!
It's almost inpossible to make music when the d8b is running with that amount of db

Hi Eddos,

Where is the noise coming from? The most likely culprit is the CPU fan and power supply fan in the CPU, possibly the hard drive (time to change it if it's making that much noise.... ;) .).
I don't think there is anything in the desk itself that makes a noise......apart from possibly the fader motors!

Regards

I agree, there is a lot of space but no place to mount the power supply. Surface area is scant. You can't use the bottom panel. That would be fraught with danger and make accessibility internally most difficult.

That was to be the original design of the d8b, all in the console with no external box. In fact, I snagged an armrest that has the floppy cutout in it from when that was the path they were thinking.

Here is a pic where you can sort of see the floppy insert hole. I can get a better pic if you are interested.

I believe that noise was an issue when the cpu/power was in the console as I recall, so they opted for the external box. It would have been cool though to have it all in one.

Ha! I've got one of those stored in my garage. A very early D8B with the floppy-slotted armrest. It was more than noise that deep-sixed the plan. It was also the heat it would generate with no sane way to vent it. And yes, the noise would've been incredibly unacceptable.

Putting the power supply in there was a bad idea.....still is.
