OT: God is listening

Postby Dan Worley » Thu Feb 10, 2011 12:50 am

I just had to share this. I can't quote what was said or report what was done verbatim, but it's close:

Some of you know that my best friend Jim Salinas died recently at the age of 54. Jim and I were best friends for 42 years. Yesterday, Jim's older brother, Mike (who was his primary caretaker for the past five years) was having a real bad morning and was in great despair over the loss of his brother. He said he was completely overwhelmed by grief and couldn't stop crying and wailing and weeping. In his despair he called out to God, "God, please let me know that Jim's all right. I just have to know. Give me a sign or something. " Then he said, "Jim, I miss you. If you can hear me, please let me know you're okay." A few minutes went by, and then, over the radio, on the country station (KTRY 106.3) Mike and Jim listened to every morning, he heard this: "Hi, this is Jim Salinas. People call me Jimmy Gene." Mike couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Wait! What? That's Jim! What's he doing on the radio?" Jim went on to say a few more things and then sang a short little jingle he wrote for the radio station and the DJ Michael "J." Mike was on the floor by this time completely not believing what he was hearing. Then the DJ came on and said something like, "It's listeners like that that make this show so special and I just had to share that with you."

Mike got off the floor and called the radio station and told the DJ who he was and that Jim had passed away. The DJ asked Mike to come down to the station. Mike went over there and the DJ brought him into the studio and (off-air) gave Mike a CD he had put together with some songs and with Jim's spot in the middle and the DJ saying, "There was just something about this guy that touched me when I heard his voice. I thought, "This guy is special."" Well, needless to say Mike was overwhelmed and when he told the DJ exactly what had happened that morning the DJ was overwhelmed.

Come to find out, Jim called the radio station in May of last year and left that message on their machine. The DJ, Michael "J" pulled it off the machine and had held onto it for all those months and felt compelled to play it yesterday.

God is listening.

Wow...that is crazy awesome. Usually things like that are a bit more subtle in my experience. That was pretty blunt force trauma in a cool way.

Here's the tribute to Jim that the DJ Michael J of KTRY put together. What a nice guy.
