Hey Dee, just so you know, the database is here as well. Look up top here sort of to the right. Glad to hear that things seemed to have smoothed out.

Hey Dee, Sup Crash? ( you the man!)

I am late to the party here, but I have had some issues with my 300 MHz CPU in regard to the mouse and keyboard being recognized... I have to say it is frustrating. it is not very often but for me it has to do with the connecting port... or so it seems.

When I mess with the wiring connection at the CPU and fudge (yes fudge, it means move it around a bit) the connection at the CPU end it will boot properly. What I do is I put both the mouse and keyboard connections in and out of the CPU, like push it in and pull it out slightly, the frustrating thing for me is that sometimes the Mouse works and sometimes the Keyboard works, but fortunately the majority of the time both work. I honestly think that the connection to the input jack has a cold solder joint or something. FYI, I have looked in there and it isn't that simple, it is really crammed together and the female end connector that is soldered to the board would be a nightmare to get to, if were easy I would have just re-soldered all the connections. It is also possible that the jacks themselves are sub-standard where it does not make a proper connection. Either way when it goes wrong it can be time consuming and it is a drag, it takes the wind out of the sails for sure. I find when I find the sweet spot and I do not "disturb" the connection it just boots every time, but sometimes I get into the rack and disturb it and that is when I am running back and forth to get the thing to go.

Furthermore, the mouse for me, as well, seems to be more prevalent a problem because the keyboard functions are more consistent to work, on boot up, than the mouse. I don't know if this helps or not but it is what I know about it.

I would see if you could source another mouse/keyboard card and see if that gets you back on the road to recovery. I can't imagine that card is very expensive these days, assumning it could be found. You might want to just get the card out and give the edge connections a bit of a cleaning too. Ya never know, it might help.

huh? you not the man! I don't have a card, mine are soldered separately to the CPU somehow or another, like I said... "FYI, I have looked in there and it isn't that simple, it is really crammed together and the female end connector that is soldered to the board would be a nightmare to get to, if were easy I would have just re-soldered all the connections."

Anyway a PCI card type deal seems just too easy. And you know I am kidding around with you crash right? I think your posts are most informative and so much more witty and humorous than mine will ever be. Peace.

It is coming back to me now. I forgot about that little sucker sitting down there. I take it you have the 166mhz wonder machine.... For some reason in my mind I have relocated that connection to a card. I don't know what to tell you on getting to that for a fix. I say get it working and then strain relief the cable further upstream so that the connection never moves again. Have a beer and declare yourself the winner. That is my only idea on that one.

Hey there Dee. I am sorry you are still having trouble with this…

Well... I just know what I have experienced. Every once in a while, the thing acts up and it seems to be the connector into the CPU... while I am reconnecting the mouse and keyboard cable I could be hitting something else, really I don't know. It just seems that when I mess with the cables it works and then it just works until it doesn't again. I don't understand it really and I haven't found any solution except to run back and forth moving the cables around a little bit at a time (kinda like mic placement) to find the sweet spot. There have been times when I have spent over an hour trying to get the thing to boot so the mouse and keyboard are recognized, by that time I am pretty upset and not in the mood to do any work. There have been times while in the middle of a project I just left the whole thing powered up for days so I would not have to go through the headache. The surprising thing is... it is very rare that this happens. When it happens sometimes I can get it in one and others I spend more time than I care to admit... sorta like I am not going to let the machine win. I wish I could be more help but this is all I know.
