D8b floppy drive and HD replacements

Postby Carlo » Mon Feb 26, 2018 12:49 pm

Dear All,

Few years ago i was reading here on this forum where something interesting caught my attention. I'm referring to the HD replacement with an SD card. I bought the IDE to SD adapter but never had the chance to install. Are there any instructions somewhere on this forum how to get the current OS with all the data inside, clone it and transfer it to SD. I need a seamless way how to do it. Do i have to pull out the HD? I remember that someone mention the MACRIUM Reflect Software to clone the OS. Any help is appreciated.

Is there a Floppy to USB Adapter compatible with the d8b? If yes can someone give me some insight on this please?

Thanks to all
regards

Carlo :)

Hi,
I've seen posts about replacing the HDD with a CF card also there is a post or 2 about a floppy disc emulator that allows you to use a memory card or a USB stick. It has virtual floppy discs in the card and you select them from the front panel. Have a go with the search button and you should be able to piece something together.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hey Carlo.
It depends a bit on how you connect the SD card to your computer.
Originally, when I migrated to CF card instead of the HD, I connected the CF - IDE adapter to my computer, and this worked fine with macrium, since the computer saw the card as a regular harddrive.
However, later I got a card reader, so now the computer sees the card as a memory card, and macrium wont let me write the image to that.
Instead I found the program "Aomei backupper" (free version), thats works just fine. I imagine it would work just as fine for you.
In other threads, I posted links to the image I made of my d8b - 5.1 + the plugins with munkustraps hack. Others have used it succesfully with their d8b's.
If you need to copy files from you d8b, it might be easier to simply copy the stuff you want using ftp, and then use my image to make a new installation.

For the card size - it doesn't need to be that big. The installation only fills a few megabytes. My CF card is 4gb, but I think even 1gb would be more than adequate.
