D8b Hard Drive Replacement

Postby choosemosaic » Tue Jul 03, 2018 5:47 pm

My 20 year old, original D8B hard drive is finally failing.

With that said, I don't have ANY of the tech from 20 years ago to re-load the software onto new floppies etc.

What are my options?

The board still works flawlessly - All the faders still function 100%. etc.

Just need to replace the hard drive.

Thanks in advance for a swift response.

I will probably go this route when my HD starts to act up:

Replacing the HDD with a Compact Flash card

Well, I got the new drive in and it's recognized by the BIOS. Here's my new issue.

It seems my original 2.01 install disks have somehow become corrupted or damaged after 20 years of carting them around.

I've downloaded the OS files from the D8B Database, extracted them, and placed them on PC formatted diskettes.

However, the D8B gives me the MS-DOS return of:

"Non-sytem disk" when I try to use them to boot/launch the installer.

What am I doing wrong? I haven't had to touch this unit since installing 5.0 years ago.

I believe you need to let the OS to format your HD.

Take a look to this info from the database:

Formatting the Hard Drive

Let us know how it goes.
