Ethernet splitter or switch ?

Postby funk » Tue Oct 09, 2018 1:17 pm

Hi all, i want to connect an ethernet connection from my 2 HDRs to my lap top permanently, im fed up of scurring around the back of the rack to connect it.
i have at the moment 2 hdrs connected together via the ethernet link at the mo so want to cut into that and send one to the lap top,
now having a scoot around google on the subject it seems a splitter will not do the job or will it if only one thing is used at a time ? so my question i have a belkin hub switch, will this be ok ? as its powered so might boost the sig
cheers for any info

Have you tried a small network switch? don't need the gigaqbit....small 10/100 would do and probably only 10 bucks or so

A small ethernet switch should work.
I have both my d8b and HDR connected to the switch in my wifi router, and it works fine.

Potentially: yes.
You might have to set up some stuff in the router, if you want people from the internet acessing your files. (like telling your router, that ftp access have to be directed to that particular ip address)
However, there's no more security in it, than what your router provides - as far as I remember, there's no security (like login) in the d8b or HDR.
