I would suggest buying and installing a IDE-Compact flash adapter instead of the harddrive.
It's much easier and faster to write an image to, and gets you around the problems of having to find workable floppy disks.
(you will also need a pc with card reader to do this)

Then it's just a matter of following this guide:

Thanks- we've done this and did use a CF, the console boots, but is asking for auth codes. Any ideas?

Otherwise - in the the walkthrough I made a link to above, there is a guide, including a link for some images I made, that have the plugins authorized already.
