The V-Pots on both of my d8b's were all pretty much unusable when I got them. Not just the one's below the display, but also all the ones on each channel. Calibration didn't solve it.

I cleaned all of them with "Deoxit Fader". Sure - they do feel a bit looser afterwards, but at least they're usable.

I would think that the V-Pots would slowly develop issues where they start hanging and jumping, etc., and not just start doing that after a different sounding issue (audio issues with jumping faders in the GUI, like this thread started out).
But if that's the only thing, I'd definitely try cleaning them (or first try calibrating... forgot if that's possible for those pots, also).

Not possible for pots, I don't think they need cleaning, the four I'm talking about wouldn't all go bad at the same time.

I'm sure I've had this sort of thing before and fixed it :?

Hi Bruce, nice to hear from you :)

Really frustrating this, I have been using just my slave D8b and HDR for many years, now that it's got all these problems I reverted back to the one I used as a Master, only to find that it has this eq jittering from the pots, as I mentioned it works with the mouse, so it's not the end of the world except I like my hands on the desk and every time I want to set eq, which is very often, I have to go to the mouse

There is just one ribbon going to the surface board from the Brain board, logically one would think it's either one or the other boards, but could it be something else?

Found the EQ jittering problem, the ribbon to the surface board, one wire wasn't making contact the little bugger!!

Trouble is, it takes some time to get to the connector as the board need to come out.

These are great console, but getting them apart, and back together, although do-able, is PITA.

More info and insight for the members of this forum!

Thanks Phil!

You're not going to believe this, the last thing that happened to the bad desk was a smell from fader bank 1-8, I thought I saw a little smoke but I could be wrong, anyway, I turned it off straight away.

This morning a booted it up and...no hum, VU's showing and master VU, music through monitors, everything working except for fader bank 1-8, I'm guessing this was the problem from the start.

I've checked it over, no signs of burning, swallen components etc, I don't know if there's a way of fixing these but I will probably need to find a replacement.

Anyone selling these in the UK?

Ok, I've found the bugger, it's a rail cap C102, I've checked out the boards in the Data Base but I can't find the schematics for the fader bank boards?

The pictures show the burnt area, the componant was to burnt to see what it was, the other picture shows where this is in relation to the other faders.

The orange spot is where the problem is.
