changing the hard drive to CCF

I meant to say the big friggin cable was not hooked up to the d8b
and I grabbed the cable and it touched where it was supposed to be hooked up and that's when it made the sizzle.
I forgot all about that then I remembered about it when I was checking the brain board. sorry I did not think about that earlier. guess there is no help for my d8b now.

does anyone know what source would be used to operate the pan pots and volume controls solo control and banks 1 2 3 and master. or do each one work from a different source. these are the things that are not working on my d8b.
hoping someone else may have had this problem and solved it. thanks for any kind of help

So you connected the BFC when the cpu was powered up?

Just a shot in the dark but have you checked the fuses?

I have had my d8b since 2000 got it brand new with the HDR.
and can you believe I don't know where the fuses are? and don't even know
what they look like. but I will try and find where they're at. I will try anything now and at this point.

The fuses are on the pcb's in the power supply compartment in the cpu unit.

If you look through the service manuals and docs, you can see that there are kind of 3 power supplies in there:

5V, 12V and a +/-16V which also has a 48V supply that's only used for phantom power.

As far as I can see, the parts you mention gets their power through the brain board, and the brain board gets power from all three (5v,12, +/-16v).
I would check those fuses first. Then check carefully check the voltage on the pins of the brainboard connector on the power distribution board inside the desk (the pcb that has the BFC on it).

Hi everyone.

today I will have a little extra time to check out my d8b.
just asking I have two CPU units I have the newer one hooked up now to the d8b
and I have the old version CPU. would it be better to try and change them out and see if that will help with my problem before I start looking for bad fuses and other things? I don't even know if you can use the CF on the older CPU if I could use the older CPU and it works it would save a lot of time and trouble. I think so anyway.

I don't have a cpu with the older motherboard, so I have not tried it out, but it seems that the CF card solution might not work on them.
However, there is nothing preventing you to try the old cpu out, if it should be working. It's a quick thing to do, if that one already works.
