Sorry folks I forgot to ask one more question? In the instructions I downloaded from the link, there is mention of "building up a Vellmen kit". What is this for and how do I know which one to build. is this the 48v power supply?

Last night I received first rack-mount 2u case for the CPU. I was a little worried two things may not fit but to my surprise everything will fit. Posting pictures. I have a spare older motherboard for the d8b so I was able to fit that into the ATX case. I'm going to have to do a little surgery on the case to make some of the ports work and I have already ordered a low profile video card and modem card. This is going to be fun.

Quick Question - The rest of the power supply's are being delivered tomorrow so I will start building my new power supplies this weekend. One question - in reading the documentation from Ralph, it mentions putting a jumper on some points inside the console. The instructions also detail "building up a velleman kit". If all I am doing is building a separate power supply to supply the exact voltages that the current CPU remote does, do I really need to do these steps?? I purchased the same materials as you outlined and addition I purchased a 48V power supply for the phantom power. In looking at the picture posted by "livefromheaven", I did not see any reference to a "velleman" kit.

Can you tell me if you used one and if you made jumpers inside the console?

Thanks

RJ

Just finished putting together first power supply. To my surprise, everything worked on first startup. Left it running for an hour and no heat buildup. I have two problems however that need help with. First, the console +/- 16 and + 48 share a common ground, (Ground A). There is no additional pin in the BFC to add a ground, so unless I tie the output grounds of the 48 VDC and 15 VDC power supplies together, I will not be able to use the +48.

Second, using the exact parts listed in instructions in this thread, the adjustment pot on the TXR 1515D transformer will only adjust one of the output values, (V1) and has no affect on the output for V2. SO I am able to adjust +15 to +16 but the V2 output is still at - 15.33 and I cannot change it. How did you get the -16 output?? Is that what the Velleman Kit is for??

PLEASE HELP - I AM SO CLOSE.

Once I get this finished, I will upload pictures and detailed instructions on what I did

Thought I would post a couple of Pics of what I did. I added a few things to the original instructions that were posted. Mounted everything in a 1 RU Seneca Serer Chassis. Added a fuse board to provide fuses in front of each power supply. + 5 and +12 power supplies each have 3.0 AMP fuse. +48 and +/- 16 have 1.0 AMP fuses and chassis has 6 AMP fuse. Also added chassis ground. Next, added 4 super silent fans to the chassis. Last, removed the LED's from each power supply and soldered lead wires to each. Relocated LED's to front panel. White = 12 VDC, Green = 5 VDC, Yellow = 16 VDC, Blue = 48 VDC.

My only problem now is tweaking the -15 V2 output. Cannot adjust.

I did everything you did here with exact same parts. The adjustment pot on the TXL 035-1515D only allows you to adjust the +15 to +16. THere is no adjustment for the -16. The unit natively puts out -15.33. How did you compensate fotr that, or does it not matter?

Iam anxious to connect to console buyt afraid i will burn something out.

I'm gonna stick my neck out here, and say you should be 'safe' - and my reasoning is that most power supplies allow a 5-10% voltage tolerance level, depending on the voltage rail - in this case, the negative rail. Just about every negative rail I've seen are primarily rated @ +/- 10% tolerance levels. In this case, if we have things rated at a 10% tolerance voltage levels for -16vdc, allowing for @ 14.4 min / 17.6 max output provided that's the actual output spec (10% tolerance). I don't know the specs or how sensitive the circuitry is on the D8B (and I'm too f'n lazy to look into it right now :D), but this may very well fall into an acceptable range of voltages. The -15.33vdc that you've indicated you're reading certainly falls well within even a 5% tolerance of -16vdc if I'm reading this correctly...

However, do NOT take this as doctrine of truth because I'm simply speculating - but it certainly seems within reason that you're OK here and shouldn't torch anything. I stand corrected if that's not the actual case... :geek:

As always, you had to know it was coming so here it is :
