Not sure how I can help. Either you have a faulty MIDI interface or you screwed your HUI settings during your famed MIDI mapping OS hack? I can use Solo, Mute, Pan, Fader, Channel Select etc no problem in Logic 9.

1. Make sure you have MIDI In/Out between D8B and Mac.
2. Make sure in Logic you have correct MIDI port selected for transmission of MIDI clock (D8B MIDI Port)
3. Make sure in HUI send and receive MIDI port is just D8B MIDI Port
4. If you have messed around with HUI try deleting it and reinstalling the Mackie HUI
5. Check you MIDI cables are good (try different ones)
6. Is HUI online?
7. Is OS 5.1?

If all above are okay maybe MIDI card in D8B COU is faulty. Its a Midiman Card and you might be able to source one if you are lucky. My guess though is its either your MIDI connections, MIDI interface or your OS tweak.

I have a fresh install of mackie v5.1 and I have everything connected right (im using the same interface I did all of my OS work on) I just need everything working because I am trading a person straight of for a mackie control with the 8 fader attachment wing and the mackie c24. Considering this is my best move because my OS stuff was buggy (especially with gui errors in the randomist parts) and hui mode just sucks. Also would anyone say I could sell this for more if I parted it out and sold it on the forum on here (well through ebay or something)

I don't get it as my HUI works fine. It took a little while to get it right and it does occasionally jam but I do not see much of an advantage with a Mackie Control other than greater fader resolution (on the MCU versions) and better integration with fader views. I managed to get round this by creating screensets in Logic filtering HUI layers by type such as Instruments, AUX, BUS, Audio, MIDI etc. I know other DAWs such as Sonar etc have troubles but Logic and ProTools should work fine.

BTW the mackie Control pretty much works same as a HUI in that you bank by 8 to get full access.

True but I will have 24 faders of mackie control as with the d8b ...but I dont have to worry about the mackie control breaking down like the d8b due to its old computer

Tyler, I would wait a little before selling the d8b and see what happens with Marc Girard and Frank Vezina's project.

I'm sure you'll get more money selling the board in parts but it's also more struggle.

Getting back to the topic, make sure there is nothing in your Logic project that could be sending MIDI data through MIDI channel 1. This channel is HUI's MIDI default channel. It can not the changed. It should be left alone for HUI to communicate smoothly.

So they are prepared to trade an MCU and two extenders for your D8B? Thats sounds too good to be true to me. They obviously don't know the value of secondhand D8Bs! Unless you are talking about early Mackie Controls?

You know they are not without their issues too. I have heard users moaning about faders going nuts on their own and its still hardware so can still have problems with fader motors, vdus and buttons going.

Maybe you were unlucky or paid way too low for your D8B. Mine was a barely used last gen D8B built 2003 in very good nick with a 300mhz CPU and 10GB HD. It cost me £1500 (about $2000 I suppose) about 1 1/2 years ago.

But its played nice so far.

I paid $850 for mine. mine is the 166Mhz version but I upgraded it to 900Mhz and it works better than ever btw. Marcs project is what has been holding me back as my rewrites of the OS seemed to crash alot and I have paying clients now so no more messing around with self mod stuff :/ The old mackie control is what I was going to be trading for and I thought it would be a good trade seeing that not as much can break on those as the d8b. Love to here more input btw

The way I see it, you'd only have 16 physical faders with the MCU and extender. The C24 is for plug ins and assignable control. Now you've mentioned that it's the original MCU, I'd be selectively screening my calls :-)

In the scheme of things, there isn't one... just chaos.
